Hi all,

I recently upgraded from an Intel Q6600 P35 based setup to the one in my sig (now with an XFX 1000W PSU) and it's the first time I've really had a go at overclocking.

I am using a Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler and the idle temps (with speedstep) are around 35c

I've gone straight in for a 3.8Ghz clock then stepped it up to 4.6Ghz using the Asus UEFI BIOS and so far the temps when running prime95 are getting a bit high in my opinion.

I see that the Vcore is 1.376v and I'm aware some people advise not to let this get too high else it shortens the life of the CPU? Below is a screenshot of the Prime95 running and CPU-Z, the temps are in the system tray next to the clock (supplied by Core Temp 1.0RC3)

The OC is made up of 125x37, should I be lowering the Vcore, or use the multiplier instead? (Multi only goes up to x44 for this CPU) or should I just not worry about and it's actually OK?

Many thanks in advance!!

Nice system :)

Anything under 1.4V is OK for Sandybridge but higher volts will in turn lead to higher temperatures so it's always good to get the overclock running on the minimum volts it can to be stable. I don't know for your chip what is a decent overclock so I'll let someone else answer there but thought I'd chime in on the voltage front :)

did you run prime95 for longer? try running intel burn test on maximum for 10runs,no more than that imo as its very stressfull, ibt will get hotter than prime95

I've stepped it down to base CPU strap as advised in the sticky in the CPU forum and then set to multi to it's max 44x which is 4.4Ghz

Even though this is what is set in the BIOS, when you get into Windows it only goes at 43x which is really annoying!

I'll give the burn tests a ago at this lower speed then, thanks for the help!
