I think 2 things are going to be core when building a server for the house etc...

* Storage. Yes that mobo has 8x SATA ports but what about RAID? I would invest in a RAID card, maybe a cheap PERC off the bay or something. Having a single logical volume of several Tb's will make your life a lot easier down the line when you are trying to manage all your films, music, photos etc etc etc. Having them all on seperate drives makes it difficult to manage them especially if one of your shared folders is too big for a single drive. Thats without mentioning any kind of redundancy should a drive fail.
* Case. Your going to start collecting a lot of drives for your storage, and your going to want a case which can handle it, without being excessively noisy or power hungry (remember it will be on 24x7)

Have you considered one of those HP Microservers? as an FYI, it would work out about £20 more for the whole machine including PSU and Case than those 3 components you have listed at the top.

Hi mike,

I will be using windows small business server as i need exchange and to login to the server when overseas.

I have a server cabnet and plan to use the server to stream HD content thought the house aswell as manage remote login etc.

Bit like a media centre along as a server.

The case i have can hold a fair amount of HDD, I have 6 2TB drives at the moment. I have external storage via USB3 which will hold an additonal 3 2TB which will have a encrypted copy of all my data.

I'm just traying to find a decent board which fills the needs without taking too much juice from the socket.

Thanks for the input :)
