Thinking of purchasing the following on 18 September.

Abit AW9D-MAX Intel 975X (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-108-AB)

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C5 TwinX (2x1GB) (MY-092-CS)

Thermaltake VA8000SWA Armour Aluminium Super Tower - Silver (CA-006-TT)

800W Tagan Dual Engine TG800-U25 SLi Ready PCI-E SATA EPS12V

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 775, 2.4 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, Conroe Core, 4MB Cache, Retail

256MB Leadtek 7950GT, PCI-E (x16), Mem 1400 MHz, GPU 550 MHz, 24 Pipes, 2xDual Link DVI-I/HDTV

LG GSA-H10NBAL Black 16x16 & ±RW/ 12x RAM Dual Layer DVDRW Writer OEM UK

500Gb Seagate ST3500630AS Barracuda 7200.10, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Cache, 8.5 ms

1.44 FDD drive

I'm keeping (from my old rig) my Dell 2405 monitor, my existing 2x250gb, 2x320gb, 2x160GB drives, and my soundblaster audigy2 usb2 and 7.1 speakers (plus any other minor things which can be put in the new rig)... I'll still want to make use of my old rig (move it to my place of work).

I'm also thinking of getting a 2x512MB RAM of the same type above in addition to above, so I'd have a total of 3GB system RAM... but this depends on whether I go for it now, or when memory prices go on the downturn.

I'm gonna go for a basic overclock.. none of this fancy water clocking :)

I'm gonna use this rig for everything.... web surfing, word processor, emailing, games (high spec ones - at least to run Oblivion nicely), web hosting, and video editing.... gonna purchase a digicamcorder as well.

Your suggestions on this specification would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Is there any particular reason you are going for an Abit? I think both the Gigabyte DS4 and Asus P5W are supposed to be better for overclocking the 6600 chips.

Even with all your hard drives(maybe the reason for the Abit?) I still think that an 800w PSU is probably overkill.

I'd consider the X1900XT 256mb over the 7950GT but there probably isn't that much in it either.

I'd probably also change the DVDRW for an NEC or Pioneer but other than that it looks like it should be a good specification.

Thanks for your post.

I've only gone for the Abit because it's advertised as quad core compatible (on the off chance I want to upgrade to Kentsfield). The Asus is out of stock on OCUK.

I woke up this morning, and thought 800W is overkill too. Might go for the 700W.

I'll stick with the 7950GT for the graphics card.

I'll check out the NEC or Pioneer drives.

Cheers once again :)

the x1900xt 256 on special offer this week is cheaper, and is better :)
