I've been contemplating ordering a new CPU to replace my 3800+ for a while. Mainly for gaming reasons, but don't want to get one of the old quads just before the new ones are released. So i'm going to try and overclock this cpu to around the 3Ghz area if possible.

Anyway i just wanted to get the spec checked, as i don't want to experience any trouble putting this together, as i'm a bit of a novice. I've done alittle research and this is the spec i've come up with.....feel free to admend.

Abit IP35-E

Intel Core 2 Duo E2180

2x GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency

Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler

4x Xilence XPF120R Red Wing 120mm Quiet Fan

Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound

My existing bit to be used are a 8800GT, Sata 500GB harddrive, and a Sata DVD drive.

Cheers

If you want a better overclock get the IP35 rather than the e, as it's meant to be far superior for overclocking.

Looks good overall though

The IP pro is an extremely good board it uses the ICH9R chipset (6 SATA ports & RAID capable + firewire. It also uses pipe cooling).

IP35E uses the ICH9 chipset (4 sata ports, no RAID, no pipe cooling)

The IP Pro has also been proven to be an extremely excellent overclocking motherboard.

Your existing specs are fine to be used with either MB including your chosen spec

thanks for the quick replies.

I'd like to get the IP35 pro, but at an extra £60 i can't really justify it. Is it really that much better than the IP35.

I don't mind paying an extra £15 for the IP35, if its going to make a difference.

The main difference is that the pro has solid state capacitors everywhere, in the standard it has them only around the CPU.

all that means is that you get a better overclock out of the pro.

there are a couple of other differences, just read the spec of them

personally I'd go for the standard if I were in your boat.

I've not really set myself a budget as such. But i don't want to be spending a lot of money for feature that i'm not likely to use.

I don't use raid, and i've only just started looking at overclocking.

If i'm really better off getting the pro, then i may wait a few weeks till i get paid, or just stick it on my card. I'll check them links out before i decide, may ask a few more question once i've looked at them.

That would be an ideal approach imo. Further investigating will pay off in the long run, especially if you are going to over clock. A decent solid OC board will pay off (investment wise) against a least capable board.
