You have made some great choices bar one in my mind.

The Akasa AK-CCX-4002HP Venom CPU Cooler is too much money for what it is.

I would recommend the Gelid Tranquillo. Does basically the same job and same performance for a tenner saving!

It is very popular with i5-2500k owners and does very well getting rid of the heat!

thanks lads, good call on the fan lol. im not much of an expert but the p67 would read as the better mobo, i poss look into a little bit of o/c in the future , so why the z68 mate if you dont mind me asking.

the Z68 is just a better chipset. It gives slightly better overclocking headroom than the p67 and also supports the onboard cpu/gpu combo with the integrated hd2000 graphics from intel... thats about it, plus the Z68 is the norm atm.

z68 has a number of extra features mentioned in a number of threads(1 today already), even if you don't used any of them the onboard vga alone is useful in if your graphics card breaks down you can carry on using the pc for normal usage/low 'power' gaming till the card is replaced.

Yeah, the only benefits to Z68 is Lucid Virtu (less power consumption at idle), Intel SRT (using a SSD as an HDD cache), and QuickSync (encoding using the processor IGP). Also being able to use the 2500K IGP for video output, for example if your GPU fails.

So really, there is no harm going for P67, these features are not essential. The P8P67 Pro is good, the alternative being the P8Z68-V, and the P8Z68-V Pro Gen 3, and other Z68 gen 3 motherboard. Quite a lot of motherboard alternatives actually... Research on what you want, and if you want to stick with Asus, Gigabyte, or others.

so mobo choice is really just a personal choice , given theres so little between the 2 .

Short answer Yes, depending if you can utilise the extra features but if it was me i would go fo a z68 all the time unless budget is really tight.

Look at this way capabillity over budget.

only 4 z68? and here I was thinking there are 100s ;)
