Hi,

Going to order the following tonight most likely. Already have case / psu / hdd / keyboard / mouse / dvd drive. Just wondering what you guys thought about it, going to be for the HTPC build:

Asus P5B-VM Socket 775 I965G VGA onboard audio FSB1066 mATX £52.28

Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5(5-5-5-12) Heat Spreader Lifetime Warranty £35.00

Intel E2160 Socket 775 Pentium Dual Core 2x1.8Ghz 800FSB Retail Boxed Processor £44.07

Total: £131.35

Suggestions, that sort of budget would be nice. What do you think, been umming and ahhing about AMd or Intel and all sorts ! :(

Intel can't do anyting wrong at the moment so ill keep the cpu in the spec this is what i have come up with:

Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R Micro ATX (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
£59.99
(£70.49)
OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC
£22.99
(£27.01)
Intel E2160 Socket 775 Pentium Dual Core 2x1.8Ghz 800FSB Retail
£40.99
(£48.16)

total: £145.66

EDIT: Saw you changed it to the one in question /\ :D

Also, would the AMD X2 4000+ not be better since its just 100mhz slower and like £3 cheaper. Saving the coppers here :P

Very well spotted and would still certainly do the job. :)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+ 2.10GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2

Asus M2A-VM HDMI Micro ATX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Total : £121.87 :)

I'd go with Morrey360's spec... if you can stretch that far.

Intel is fair better right now... even though AMD is slightly faster at stock... it may be better to go with Intel... in case you ever chance your mind.

Thanks again, hmm still 50:50 atm.

I'm looking more at 100% stabilty that to overclock, and as long as it can't play 720p media files I'm happy. Won't be for games etc.

I'll research that motherboard now but might just get the AMD setup, no point spending extra cash when it won't be used.....

Oh and how come OCZ and not corsair ?

Thanks, oh double check.... what's the power like for the:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ (2.1GHz) Socket AM2 Energy Efficient L2 1MB (2x512KB) Cache Retail Boxed Processor

Assume it will be fine for Vista and 720p stuff ?

With my HTPC I wanted HDMI output onboard the mbd, so got the Asus M2A-VM-HDMI (AMD)

If I was going to start from scratch now I'd but the Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H (Intel) which has onboard GeForce 7100 graphics with VGA/DVI/HDMI Outputs & On-Board Firewire.

At the time I bought my HTPC this wasn't out :(
