Please check this spec, I'm out of practice!

Hi everyone

This is a 'do all' machine for me, I am going to be:
Using it as an HTPC
Gaming (though nowhere as near as much as I used to!)
Video encoding - lots of video encoding - hence the 920.

I am thinking of overclocking, though I have NEVER done it before so I am buying what I hope is the correct equipment (after reading up on it) and may venture into it at a later date.

The PSU looks like overkill from the spec I have posted, but as it's an HTPC as well I will be adding drives as I go along, which is why I want a full size case. The Tagan PSU is a reliable make (I have had two Corsair PSUs explode on me), and it has lots of connections for powering many drives which will be needed in time.

I should note I don't need a graphics card, I will be using an 8800GTX from my old machine, that does me fine at the moment and I'm not looking to upgrade it.

I will be buying a speciaist TV card from the manufacturer.

My main worry is the Antec 1200 case and the H50 CPU cooler. Does anyone have any experience with this combination? Will I be able to use them both effectively? I don't know if I would be able to remove the case fans at the back of the case to mount the H50 radiator and fan.

Many thanks in advance for any thoughts :)

Ah yes, I see your point with the PSU from what I've put, let me edit my original post, I will be adding lots more HDDs over time which is why I want a powerful and reliable PSU.

1. The WD Caviar Greens are a waste, get 3 more F3s, it's the same price
2. Why do you need the 2.5" mount?
3. The PSU is overkill
4. You dont need ultimate, get Home Premium (unless you know you'll want more than 12 gigs, which you might with encoding video, then get Pro)

*facepalm* I don't need the mounting kit now lol.

I was looking at an SSD but can't justify it to myself especially after reading about the speed of the HDD and I've forgotten to take the mounting kit out.

I see your point with the F3 drives, however as the WDs are low power I was looking at them as a viable alternative. Two drives hold only 150GB(ish) less and use less power which is important when it's full of HDDs, it could be sucking power needlessly.

THe WDs also play back 1080p footage with no problem so I think they are a good trade off between space and power usage.

The reason I had gone with Ultimate is because I want the XP compatibility mode, I have some old software that doesn't work with Vista and that's only available in the Pro and Ultimate versions. I spose Bitlocker isn't a great feature just for Ultimate though...Pro it is!

Yeah, the PSU is overkill and i'm sure that F3's dont use that much power so i would get a couple more of them rather than WDs. Also yeah, that stuff is perfect for overclocking the 920, you can easily get to 4GHz there. If you do cut down on HDDs and go for Pro instead of ultimate, maybe you can use the extra money and get more RAM but tbh, it would only help with the encoding

Thanks for the posts guys, I didn't realise HDDs used that little power, hmmm, maybe that PSU is a little excessive, I'm not looking for a tri-SLI rig!

The motherboard has 10 SATA slots on it which is why I've chosen it, just what I will need!
