A friend's Socket A board has died (a nasty ECS). Owing to the lack of availability of decent 462 mobos, he is leaning towards a partial rebuild.

An entry level machine is required. These are the components I've selected:

AMD Athlon 64 3200 AM2 2GHz
MSI K9N4 ULTRA-F AM2 nForce 500 ultra ATX
Corsair Memory VS512MB533D2 PC4200 512MB CAS4
Asustek ATI Radeon X300 SE - Graphics Adapter - 128MB
Samsung 80GB S300 7200RPM 8MB

Perhaps I could do better? Cheaper even?

TIA

The above spec comes in at about £170.

Less would be better but I guess he'd probably go to about £200.

Just a pity I can't get a replacement socket A board for a cheap repair.

Tried building one myself:

Asrock ConRoe865PE (Socket 775) AGP DDR Motherboard £34.99
(£41.11)
Crucial 1GB (2x512MB) DDR2 PC2-4200C4 Dual Channel Kit (CT2KIT6464AA53E) £41.99
(£49.34)
Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 80GB ST380811AS SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM £27.99
(£32.89)
MSI GeForce 6200 128MB DDR TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £24.99
(£29.36)
Intel Celeron D 326 2.53GHz (LGA775) - Retail £26.99
(£31.71)
Sub Total : £156.95

Shipping : £8.25
Vat : £28.91
Total : £194.11

Uses Intel rather than AMD and is a little cheaper. Inc postage though.
