My brother is into video editing, he has a sony HD video camera but his current PC is not beefy enough to cope with the processing and when he converts videos the playback is of poor quality and some stutter lines here and there. He has saved back some money for abit of an upgrade.....

I was thinking along the lines of:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz

what motherboard would be best to buy to house this on? he wants something that is going to be reliable but not break the bank and also anything that will benifit with his video encoding.

Does this seem resonable?

hi mate, whats the other hardware your going to have in the system with the new cpu and motherboard.?

psu.
ram.
graphics card
OS
hdd.?

Kenny

ps....what budget are we talking for the motherboard.?

It would good, but if his budget will stretch to it a i7 920 based system was made for that job...

agreed. though i video edit too and im using an overclocked q6600 and it's fantastic. but honestly, i know you said it shouldn't break the bank. but i've managed to decode some HD clips and its quite madenning how quick the i7 is. i've decided to sell and upgrade!
