Hi,

Im trying to save money by buying windows 7 upgrade instead of the full version. Based on googling, this is what i need to do. If someone could confirm 'yes thatll work' that would be great so I know its not money wasted.

1)My old computer has a purchased legal copy of windows xp 32-bit.
2)I will attach my brand new harddrive to the old computer.
3)I will boot system via upgrade disc.
4)I will choose the clean install option and choose my new hard drive. (Leaving cd key null)
5)When installed, the old computer will boot up using old harddrive, so new hard drive never used.
6)I will remove the new hard drive and fit it in my new build.
7)New computer will boot up windows 7 as 1st run requiring internet activation.

Itd be great news if this is what i need to do.

Kindest Regards.

Thanks for reply.

I always thought to install from scratch you needed a full version of the OS, and to install from upgrade you need a version of windows that exists on one of the hard drives.

Kindest Regards
