Just installed WinSMP client as I've now got a Q6600 and it seems to be running ok. However, reading up on it on the Stanford FAQ it mentions it doesn't support checkpoints as it's still beta.

Sorry for being really dim but does this mean I can't stop it without losing all the work? This will be very disappointing as I can't leave my machine on 24/7 so I won't be able to run SMP.

Use Ctrl and C to close it down and it should start at the beginning of the latest frame when you next open it.

Ah right, so I only lose, what, a few minutes if I shut it down? That's a relief. Is the file date/time stamps in the 'work' folder a guide to where it will resume?

Thanks for your help.

I'm not sure. i'm not overly-familiar with WinSMP.

However the FAHlog file will tell you which frame was being crunched when it shut down.

Mmm, not sure what I'm doing wrong but it doesn't seem to pick up again if I stop it. I restart it using fah.exe and I get a core shutdown:FILE_IO_ERROR message. It then sits at 'finalizing output', all 4 cores go up to 100% workload but I know they're not cruching properly as the temperatures on all the cores stay lower than normal.

[edit]

Restarted PC and all sees ok again, started at percentage finished I last left it - probably some component not shutting down before. Fingers crossed, will be ok now.
