Recently (December 2007) upgraded my PC from a AMD Athlon 3700+ San Diego core, ASRock Dual Sata mobo, 9800 Pro GPU and 2GB RAM - with Hitachi Deskstar hard drive, DVD RW etc in a Nzxt Lexa case with a Hiper Type R modular 580wPSU.

Upgraded to: Intel Core 2 Quad LGA775 Q6600 GO SLACR 2.40GHz CPU, Asus Arctic Square CPU Cooler, ASUS GT8800 512 mb GPU, ABIT IP35 Pro Motherboard, 2GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC2-8500C5 DDR2 Dual Channel, Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache,Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA-II 16MB Cache, and am just about to add a HP dvd1070 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter - I have kept the Nzxt Lexa case with Hiper Type R modular 580w PSU and the LG DVDRW.

I am wondering whether the PSU is up to the job or whether I need something else - I had thought it was quite a good PSU but have read some comments recently that have made me question this.

I haven't got a lot of money to spend so would appreciate your suggestions -
I know it's sad but I love blue LEDs as well.

Cheers for the advice :D

Personally I would recommend coolermaster or corsair, but as you require blue LEDS how about http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-018-OC

?

OCZ GameXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply - 65 quid

And for the record the hiper is a pile of poop.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry - I should have said I would prefer modular cabling And Blue LEDs!

Pile of poop - isn't that a trifle harsh? ;)

Thanks:D

Thanks ...but ..will OCUK stock the 600W Tagan modular?

Yep - the Zalman looks like a good bet.

However, I really like the look of the modular Tagans with the blue fans and coloured modular cables - but I see OCUK only does the 900 w as the minimum spec - too pricey for me and a bit OTT I think.

I was thinking I might need 600 W - do you think that's about right for my PC's spec or should I be looking at 700 W?

Does anyone have any idea whether OCUK might stock the 600 W modular Tagan? Have they ever done?

Is the Hiper that bad? Is it likely to 'destroy my system?'.

Qtec - now there's an idea - but I don't want to pay more that £8.99

Cheers:D

I have a Zalman that for some reason doesn't like my motherboard (an Asus M3A32-MVP), yet an older versioned Enermax does. Go figure. Totally bizarre as apparently (when it got sent to a PC repair centre - it worked in a different setup
