Hi Folks, I've got an ancient PC that has been lying around and i dusted it off for my nephew to do his school work on, It's an Intel Q9300 on a Gigabyte GA-X38-DS5 mobo with 8 gig of DDR2 and a GTX950, I put Windows 10 64 bit on it and it works a treat except for the sound, It sounds like there is a frikkin dalek in the room! It has a Realtek ALC889A audio chip i believe? I've tried a few recommended drivers for this problem but with no luck, I've also been into the control panel disabling sound enhancements etc, Anyone have any ideas? Would be such a shame to junk this PC as it still has a bit of life in it! Cheers.

All nice and clean mate, It works a treat except for the audio, I've just ordered an audio dongle, I will see if that does the trick, Cheers.

I've had issues like this in the past and my issue was that the speaker setup in Windows was set to 5.1 surround sound for some reason so i had to set it to stereo and all was good, had the same issue for the wife's pc about 3 months ago too.

Audio drivers can be a pain I’ve found. Sometimes they are just fussy about needing exactly the right one.

Is there drivers from the motherboard website you can use even if they are old windows 7 type drivers?

Nothing wrong with that setup if it works and is fast enough. If you are getting sound but it sounds weird then it sounds like more of a driver problem to be the likely issue. Have you tried plugging in headphones to the front audio connector on the case if it has one, rather than the rear? If not then vice versa.
