After a lot of tooing and fro-ing over the past few weeks, I've organised the cash to sort my dear lady wife out with a new spec PC and also my dear sweet eldest daughter out. Awww. Well, you know...
Anyways:
Wife:
Old Spec:
Skt 754 Sempron 2600 (1.6Ghz, 128KB L2 Cache)
Asus K8N4-E Deluxe
1GB (2x512) Kingston Value DDR, in Single channel mode
PCI-EX 7600GT with Zalman VF-700 Fitted
80GB Maxtor IDE 133 HD
CD-RW IDE
DVD-ROM IDE
Floppy
Thermaltake Soprano Case
Generic 400 Watt
This is what I'm thinking of:
Antec NSK 1300 Case with 300 Watt PSU (I already have this)
Core 2 Duo E6300 OEM
Zalman CNPS 8000 Low Profile cooler (I already have this)
Asrock 945-DVI Motherboard
2x1GB Corsair DDR2-533 in Dual Channel Mode (I already have this)
PCI-EX 7600GT with Zalman VF-700 Fitted (From Old Machine)
80 GB Samsung Spinpoint SATA 2 HD
16x Liteon DVD-RW IDE
Dual Core, Conroe, Double the memory and dual channel memory, along with SATA 2 Hard Drive. Is this going to be enough of a big boost over the old machine to be noticeable in General windows and Games performance. Games wise were talking F.E.A.R at 1440x900 on her 19" Widescreen.
Also, with the Zalman choices and the case I'm hoping this thing is going to be QUIET, as she appreciates the quiet very much so. I'm also aiming for Power Efficiency (the whole excuse I managed to convince the Wife to spend this cash) so 65 Watt Conroe and a Machine using a 300 Watt PSU sounds good to me.
Is there anything here I can do better for the Wife??? Have I missed or overlooked anything ??
Daughter:
Old Machine:
Ancient P2 450, 256MB Ram ... basically, I'll be donating this thing its that old.
New Machine:
Shuttle SK22G2 Barebones (Case, PSU, HSF, Onboard snd VGA) (I already have this)
AM2 Sempron 3400+ (1.8Ghz, 256K L2 Cache)
1GB (2x512MB) Corsair Value DDR2-533 in Dual Channel mode
BFG 7300GT PCI-Ex Video card
160GB Maxtor SATA 1 HD (I already have this)
16x Liteon DVD-RW
This is mainly for School Work (I hope), small and power efficient (shuttle 200Watt PSU!!), but powerful enough to run The Sims 2 and World of Warcraft. Gaming wise it will be at 1024x768 on a 17" CRT.
Again, any thoughts or improvements I can make here?
Oh, I have floppy drives to load SATA drivers for Win XP SP 2.
Let me know your thoughts
