Do you mean Ivy Bridge-E?

That'll be LGA2011 not LGA1155 (it won't fit in the same motherboards as Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge).

Well I was thinking about the 'future' releases of the range on the same platform - forgive my expression of 'extreme' :p I must have picked that up somewhere, if its not technicaly correct... I have no intention of wedging a cpu into a slot, that is not the correct type! :)

As surveyor mentions, the only extreme edition Ivy bridge CPUs will be the Ivy Bridge-E chips which are expected out maybe before the end of the year and will only use the LGA2011 socket (which is incompatible with a LGA1155 board like your Z77).

The best Ivy Bridge CPUs have already been released (i7 3770K and i5 3570K) - though we may get slightly improved versions as time goes on (mainly to appease OEMs) like we saw the release of the i5 2550K and i7 2700K a few months ago on sandy bridge.

I have nothing much of worth to interject to the discussion, i just wanted to show my approval for using a game system requirements as justification for upgrading to a nice new system :D

I worked with 1920*1200 for 3 years and just switched to 2560*1440 and will be getting a 2560*1600 soon.

I can tell you I like the nicer pixel density of the 1440; although Im quite used to the 16:10 ratio so will be interested to see how I like a 1600 monitor compared to the 1440 one.
