please explain something to my girlfriend

My girlfriend and her two daughters are quite excited about the fact that they are going for a "free" makeover tomorrow. A few weeks back we were at the trafford centre in manchester and one of them entered some prize draw for the makeover and the received a phonecall and letter to say that they had "won"

The letter states that the makeover is worth £150 but that prints of the photographs are not included in the "free" prize. It then goes on to say they offer finance options for the photos and that there is no obligation to buy them but they know you will really really want to.

I'm more than happy for them to go, i could go with them but will opt for a day of gaming and gym :D:D (and it's not my my money either)

While i do want them to go (for some peace) the thing i can't get through to her is that this "free" makeover which they have won is not free and will be how this business do things on a daily basis and that any company selling anything would not offer finance for something that costs about £40.

I've tried to explain to her that the three of them will caught up in all the girliness of the moment and end up spending £300+++ on photos. Like i said, not my money so don't care in that way, but please try to tell her
 
My partner had one a few years back and they wanted to charge 600 for the album of pictures they took. that was supposed to be the same sort of deal. she did get the pictures for free though because they never took the direct debit from her account.

Tell them to take their own camera. If they refuse to let you take photos with it then they're about to be ripped off for buying their prints.
 
A very good friend of mine took up one of these offers and had some beautiful pictures taken. They were not cheap, as you say, but they look great. Just watch out for the prices.
 
If they are that excited then let them have the £150 makeover and pay for the prints yourself.

Wins bonus points in the bedroom ;)

Edit: Just read it could cost £300+ in prints. In that case sack it and just drag her in the bedroom anyway.
 
OP i'd tell them to set a picture limit ie: choose 1 best print of each of them. My ex did a similar thing and paid a small fortune on pics. Silly really, but they do get caught up in the glam, and the photographers are very "persuasive". It's a high pressure situation.

As if they'd be allowed to bring their own camera, what a silly thing to say.

Do you know the name of the studio? My wife got referred to a studio in Manchester by a friend and was suspicious, and when we googled the studio they turned out to be very dodgy - lots of hard sell stuff to get you to buy photos, etc.

EDIT: Is it Doubletake Studios by any chance?

The make over will be free, the photos won't, they'll pressure her to buy something and she'll feel REALLY guilty not buying it and most people end up spending money they don't want.

Common sense has to be applied. The make-over IS free... just the pics are not. People will inevitably want pics, or it will seem a pointless journey.

I know it is! If the OP wants to keep his money, he shouldn't let them have the photos taken. Take the photos when they get home again!
 
Well I think one pic each is a reasonable spend if they choose the best ones. That way the spend shouldn't be too much. They just need to be strong while in front of the photographers. :D
