Hi,

I havent upgraded for a couple of years and thought it was about time, currently running a Amd Opteron 146 at 2.75GHz with a Asrock dual satat mobo. I havent got a clue what is a decent buy these days. I dont do any gaming but a fair bit of photoshop and web design, as well as dealing with huge excel files. here is what I have come up. can you please tell me if this little lot is OK or if I have selected some duffers.

i'd change the motherboard to something like the Asus P5QL Pro Intel P43, and drop the memory to pc6400, iirc the 5200 has something like a 12.5 multiplyer so pc8500 would be overkill.

should do fine, not sure if the ASUS still have problems with the ocz memory, may be worth a look into or change the memory to corsair.

It seems a shame that you're buying a new setup and not buying a new, faster HDD.

How do you mean, I upgraded the hdd just a coupel of months ago. got a brand new 750gig sata drive in there. surely thats good enough

Ah okay, I assumed that your hard disk was from when you bought the rest of your spec.

well ordered this in the end, thanks for the help guys. hopefully it should be a bit snappier when multi tasking and dealing with large files than my current rig

I was planning on selling my current system. I should get a decent price for my memory but looking at what the cpu and mobo are going for ill just give em to a mate.
