please help a fool who can't stop messing

HI,

I've been playing around with my icons and messed my mail icon up so it doesn't appear as anything now. I've been trying to save it as a royal mail stamp but messed up.

I've read about changing from icns but not sure how I've tried copying and pasting with jpeg/tif files but it just displays the preview sign and whatever file extension.

If anyone can point me in the right direction i'd be very grateful I've looked through the threads on here but still can't get anywhere :mad:
 
First thing to try is to click on Mail in the Applications folders and press Cmd+I for information, drag the icon (.icns format) you want to the preview area of the dialogue window.

If that doesn't work, again find Mail in Applications, secondary click (or Cmd+Click) and select 'Show Package Contents', under Contents/Resources you will find the Mail icon, replace with what you need or with the original. You do make back ups of such things don't you?

You have deleted the whole application or just your emails? You were only meant to replace the icon. :confused:
 
I know tell me about it i've been trying to change it since 3pm today. I've deleted the whole program and can't get ti back now and i don't have any install disks either :mad: so i guess i'm without mail?
 
i've managed to take a copy of mail off another hard drive i have that was running 10.4 i've dragged it on to my desktop but it says it won't work with this version of osx
