I have a desktop PC that is connected to a Wireless Broadband Router by an RJ45 cable and a Laptop that is connected via wireless.

Both can access the Internet with no problem but I want to share files/Printers between the two and I can't. If I click on the network on my PC all I see is my PC. If I do it on the Laptop all i get is a "You don't have permission..." error.

I've ran the Network setup Wizard and made sure that both have exactly the same Network name and that Printer/File Sharing is turned on.

I've also turned off my Firewall.

I cannot ping either PC either.

Please help!

:)

Can they both ping the router?
Sounds like there's still a firewall somewhere - is the Windows one disabled too (since by default it blocks ICMP)?

Just fixed it myself.

I had two errors.

1) The firewalls on both machines were blocking traffic. Well done :D

2) The Server and Computer Browser services were not started on either PC, despite having File and Printer Sharing Service ticked under the Network connection properties.

A quick uninstall and reinstall of the File and Printer Sharing Service did the trick!

hence the reason it did'nt work when I disconnected the Firewall.

I wish I could edit the title from "Fool" to "Pro" now...

:p
