Hi guys this is my first post after a few days of browsing the forums.
I just built my new system, the specs listed below,It is also the first time i am overclocking.
When i up the default fsb of 272 by 5mhz am i supposed to lower the multiplier by 1 or leave it as it is? also i have set the memory to ddr 800 on the bios but when it loads it says ddr2 667mhz! timings are set at 4-4-4-12 manual at 2.1v.
Hope to hear from you veterans and knowledgable users.

Leave the multiplier as it is at the moment, where are you looking to see the DDR667?

Jokester

Edit: I reduced your sig down to 4 lines as you're not allowed more :)

Hi Jokester,
I am seeing the DDR667 on the black screen when i switch on the pc. It goes by too fast but i am sure i see DDR667.
Also on cpu-z it shows my memory as pc2-5300

The SPD tab of CPU-Z always shows pc5300. It's the Memory tab that you need to look at.

I managed to sort out the memory problem so now it boots up showing DDR800 mhz.
Back to overclocking the cpu, currently mutiplier is on 9 and bus speed is 272.
To overclock should i keep increasing the bus speed by 5mhz till the pc stops working on SP2004Orthos?

I also noticed if i increase the bus speed by 5mhz the Dram clock changes also i.e to 415mhz (DDR2-831)

any advice?

I'm not familiar with that board tbh. If you set the RAM divider to ddr-533 does it rise at 1:1 with your fsb? ie- if you set your fsb to 250 does the RAM show as 500Mhz?

And be sure to have your RAM set to 2.1v.

And I'd go straight in at 320Mhz. All the e6600's should be able to do that on stock voltage.

I have managed to set it to 333mhz and 9 multiplier getting 2997mhz.
Ram divider is set to 1:1 DDR 533.
Using orthos and prime95 i get 53-55 load temps and 40-41 idle.

Should i aim for 3.2 GIG speeds? If so should i do
a) 400 fsb x 8 (multiplier) or b) 355 fsb x 9 (multiplier)

any advice will be appreciated.

What is your cpu voltage atm?

400x8 will have your RAM running at it's stock speed.

Or you could run 355x9 and set the RAM on a higher multiplier. What are the RAM divider/multiplier settings on that board?

My current cpu voltage is at stock, Abit UGuru shows it at 1.23v

The last time i checked the ram divider settings, it gave 3 options to choose, ddr 533, 667 and 800.
Im not sure what ratios they work out when selected, havent tried that yet.
Does 3.2GIG seem like a realistic figure to ask for from a E6600 using my specs?

In that case 400x8 would probably be best.

And yeah 3.2 should be easy enough to get to with the e6600. You may need a slight vcore bump to get there.

Which cooler are you using?

Hi, i am using the Arctic cooler 7.
Should i try jumping straight to 400x8 or go up by a few mhz increment at a time?

ok jumped straight to 400 x 8.
I had to increase the cpu votage to the next highest setting to get the pc to boot up. I am worried about the temps! idle I am on 41 and after using orthos for 10 mins temp goes up to 61. is this acceptable? my cpu fan is on full speed 2700 rpm.

That's a bit too hot. Is running at 355x9 any cooler?

Just tried this and got 65C temp on Orthos. I was able to boot up on stock cpu voltage of 1.26 so maybe it would be the same temp if voltage was increased.
What am i doing wrong and what kind of temps should i be getting after overclocking the E6600?
