please help -a quick query on HP hardware

Hi Folks,

years ago I vaguely remember reading/hearing something about HP hardware not working on non-HP machines - this sounds rather odd to me but I thought I would ask if its true as I am fixing a guys computer an old XP1700 machine and its totally ruined, but I have enough spare parts to build a P4 2.8 machine and I was intending to use the HP cd writer but wanted to check if I were likely to have any problems with it.


should it work no problem or is there some weird firmware or something which would cause problems?

HP CD Writer would be fine, you might need to grab a firmware update off the internet if it doesn't work though.
