Hello all

Can you help please, I want to build a gaming pc and will only be used for gaming.

which is better amd or intel? i have only looked at the i72600k and the fx8150 and to tell the truth i have no idea what im looking for.

My main games will be mmo's but also games like bf3 and want to play on max setting.

Thanks

Steve

The general consensus is to save money and get a 2500k.

Its as fast as the 2600k (also avoids games that have issues with hyperthreading such as BF3) and is faster than the 8150 in games.

Plus its cheaper.

this, very good advice
also go for a good quality psu,

Stevek: I'm in the same boat, been thinking of a new build for a while now and cant decide on CPU.

Was looking at the fx8150 as i figured that 8 cores and a good price were a winner, but all the reviews, benchmarks etc suggest that Intel is the way to go...

For the vast majority of uses (including gaming) 2500k > 8150.

The 2500k is now top of my list, not sure the extra £££ for a 2700k is worth spending seen as i just use my machine for gaming and interweb....

Simply put no, it's not. Maybe a tiny bit faster in some games but nowhere near enough to justify the price.

Intel are better in practically every single way at the moment, the only area AMD are still strong is PCI-E expansion etc.

LGA1155 motherboards are quite limited expansion-wise, you need to get an LGA2011 motherboard for the equivalent expansion room.

A 2500K is perfect for most people, 2600K/2700K if you do a lot of encoding etc.
