Hello everyone,
With interest rates what they are, I decided to go mad and blow some of my savings on a new rig purchased from OcUK (coming this Saturday). Only now I'm wondering about a few things.
At the core of my new system, I've got an Asus P6T7 mobo, Intel i7 980X EE and 12GB of Corsair Dominator 1600MHz 8-8-8-24 RAM.
My first question is that although Asus have released a BIOS update to make the mobo compatible with the 980, will it be able to POST with the CPU in and allow me to flash the BIOS?
The second question is about the RAM, the mobo supports XMP as does the RAM. But I note that the 980's memory controller runs at 1066MHz. Is turning on XMP likely cause me problems? Would I have to resort to manually entering the RAM timings? If so can anyone recommend a How to Guide to help me get the best from the RAM? I used to build systems as part of an old job, but the last time I built a PC was around the time of Core2 being released. Also, I never had to tweek RAM settings so I'm a bit worried I'll do some damage.
My thanks to anyone taking the time to post a reply,
Drumm
