Hi guys ive just ordered £800s worth of pc parts for my new build but im having a real hard time tracking down a sound card i need.

I THINK, what i need is an auzentech x-plosion 7.1 PCI sound card, to link my pc to my hi-fi reciever.

My questions are these...
1)If this card is supposed to encode dolby in real time, then my games (even those not supporting dolby digital live) should still be converted to a dolby digital signal for my amp, right?
2)does my amp need to support dolby digital live, or will it just accept the signal from the auzen as 5.1 dolby digital?? My amp is good, but old.:(

If this is the right card I need then the only place i can find them that sells them is a company called JRM distribution. Never heard of them, they have NO reviews on google, their site links dont work AND despite saying they accept credit cards and visa, ONLY take Pay Pal.
3)shall i take a risk and pay them the £66 (best price i seen over this year)??
4)If i order from auzentech directly with international shipping for £83 will I also have to pay the sales or customs tax??
5)any ideas where else i can find a real time encoding dolby card?

CHEERS PEOPLE!!!:D

P.S. Still to this day I find it absolutely unbelievable that it is so hard to buy a sound card to output plain old dolby digital to an amp from a PC. I cant be the only one who is fed up of playing games in 2.1 with an expensive hi fi, I wont resort to using cheapy pc speakers. So why arent there more of these cards? even these, have now been discontinued WTF?

I Second what Phil said. No need to spend any more really. When using SPDIF, a £150 sound card is no different to a £50 one. Only the features will play a part in the choice of card, the sound quality is down to the amp. :)

oh yeah and has to have optical toslink output.

that one you linked i dont think it actually encodes dolby digital, so im pretty sure my games wouldnt be played in 5.1.....i think

also the moboi just bought is an asus M4A89GTD PRO. anyone who knows these will see it only has one pci slot free after crossfire (the larger type slot, is this a pci-e x1 slot?).

That card has optical TOSLink and has Dolby Digital Live:

"- Real-time DDL and DTS Connect encoders for amazing gaming and surround sounds over your Home Theater System"

also:

http://hothardware.com/Articles/ASUS-Xonar-DX-PCI-Express-71-Audio-Card/?page=2

"The Xonar DX package is simpler, offering a Quick Start Guide, Installation CD and a low-profile bracket along with an optical TOSLINK adapter for S/PDIF use. "

Yep Xonar D1 or DX will encode a 5.1 Dolby Digital Live signal. The Xonar DS is cheaper and does DTS Connect so if your receiver supports DTS I'd go with that.

OP - what have you been reading to think an Auzentech X-Plosion would be the best option? It's an old card and a Xonar will be far superior drivers wise in Windows 7 or Visa.

There are also a few X-Fis that will do the job you're after.

nah my receiver dosent have dts connect, shame. the dx2 at £90 is very pricey though, bit over my budget.

As for why im after the Auzen, I've read many reviews saying they are fantastic and that almost ALL other cards, esp creative x-fi cards, tout the dolby digital and dts logo, but cant actually process it in REAL TIME like an auzen, they just pass it through (which for me is no good because games surround sound it not already encoded like it is on a blu ray or dvd).

Not sure asus had these cards maybe when these reviews were written, as the reviews ive been reading are over a year old. All I want is my games in dolby digital, just like my xbox, i thought the auzen wud be a safe choice, but please if you know a card with pci-x1 connection, and optical out, let me know and ill check it out.

thanks guys for helping me achieve this!!:p

actually looking at mo mobo maybe that asus dx1 will fit...

asus m4a89 gtd pro usb3
--------------------------------
1 x PCIe 2.0 x4 - will the asus xonar work in this port, or will it have to be PCI-e x1?
1 x PCIe 2.0 x1 (this is taken over by the 1st GPU i believe)
2 x PCI (1 free after crossfire)

Its stupid i spent ages choosing an expensive mobo that would have loads of slots, and ill be lucky to get two gpus and a soundcard in. the 2nd gpu is gonna be right on top of the pci sound card if i get one to, thats why i like the idea of the smaller xonar, as it goes above one of the gpus, rather than blocking one of the fans.... but i dont think itll go in that slot...
