I have a bfg285gtx. (Second one. first one went back). The computer is fine for internet, but the minute i play a game it crashes. A can't even play half life deathmatch on my 17" monitor. I did get a report once or twice that 'the NV4_disp display driver has stopped working'. I have tried the latest drivers and the one that came with the card, but nothing works. I bought this card because I thought it would play anything, but it will not even play the original farcry. Thats a 5 year old game. I am on the verge of sending the lot back to OcUk's. My old 6800gt agp played games better than this.

Any suggestions would be great.

Silly question, are the power leads connected to the card?

Yes mate. Two seprate leads from the two pciexpress outlets on the psu.

Been looking on the internet. It could be anything from the psu to the memory to the fact i am using windows XP. But nobody has a solution. I have not tried a different slot though.
I will give it a try.

Is this a fresh install of your OS with your new gear?

Yes its a fresh install. But I did update the drivers.

How would I clock it down?

Ok...tried a different slot. same problem. The card make a qiute high pitched noise, then the computer comes to a grinding halt.

Guess i should have gone down the ATI route.

Do you have any other machines (or a friend's machine) to try it out on?
Failing that, an RMA may well be in order.

No i dont have acsess to any other hardware at all. (gaming makes you lonely) Thing is this is the second card i have had from overclockers. I know they dont make the cards but its not the sort of thing i expected. i have been buying from these for a while. And at over £300, ithough it would at least play half-life on a 17" screen.

Where do i stand now? Do i get a replacement, or try a different make? (Maybe ati)?

My old agp card was xfx, and i never had a days problem. Should i go for a normall card instead of a overclocked one?

Ok time for an update.
Installed riva tuner. underclocked it and set the fan speed to 75 percent.
Still have the high pitched sound but it works.
So what do i do next? I payed for an overclocked card witch only works when i underclock it.
It dose confirm my suspicions though, that the fan speed was not altering when i was playing games. Could it be something else overiding the fan settings?

If it doesn't run at the clock speed stated then it is faulty, RMA it for a new one.

I'd just get a stock clock one and have a go it overclocking it yourself.

This is why it pays to have a spare GPU lying around, just in case. Seriously, even if it is just a cheapo card, it's enough to keep you online.

I spend that much when I go out for a nice curry with the mates, so I think it is totally worth it.

I have just sent an RMA request to OcUk. I will just have to wait and see.
