Hey, I am doing a assignment for my ICT course in college, and the Unit is about technical support. The assignment asks that I find some technical support sites and then evaluate the sources of information based on real world issues. For this one ive chosen overlclockers forums coz i know how good you guys are at helping haha. All i need you to do is pretend this is a real question and answer as best you can, if possible give links to other websites so its coming from more than one source. Thanks. ...

'Hello I work for a computer company called Amber computing. I use a computer every day, but for some reason, i turned a computer on today and it came up with the following message: "NTLDR is missing". Can you please help, thanks.'

look for how to fix it, its been posted, normally you would either pick up the pc or go vist the person, then you fix it, for fixing it just do a search on this site for that topic you'll find a few answers.

Yeah i know i can do a search I just wanted it to be treated like a new problem, so if someone from the computer company who had never used the forum before could just post a question and get an answer, have searched for it anyway as it is still feedback, thanks.

I'm not going there, but I'm amused to see there's a http://ntldrismissing.com !

Seriously, just Google it:

Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.
Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.
Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file.
Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32.
New hard disk drive being added.
Corrupt boot sector / master boot record.
Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable.

Corrupted ntldr and corrupt boot sector seem to be the most frequent culprits in my experience. Solution is usually booting with the Windows disc and into the recovery console.

NOTE: there are some serious tech-heads in here who know this stuff off the top of their heads - the rest of us just google to reply to questions that we aren't sure of (I knew the fix, but googled the list of causes.)

I had great fun with an NTLTR error which resulted in anger and red eye. From what I remember I solved the problem by booting from a USB stick and replacing the missing file.

Or as happened to me somone has been fiddling and knocked the sata cable to the HDD.

a assignment isnt finished until you blame the person directly for the fault.
