I did a reformat of one of my drives that had 2 partitions, 1 had xp and the other had data files and folders.

The problem was i did a reformat and somehow it wiped out both partitions, along with all the data. Im gutted. Is there a way to reverse a format? and recover my files from the formated drive?

Please help.

Was it a quick format or full format? If it was a quick format, then there is a chance you could retrieve a lot of your data.

I used this program to recover my files when I accidently formatted a wrong partition. It recovered all of my documents but put all files in the same folder and changed the file names changed to a load of numbers, so it took ages for me to go through them all to find the file I wanted.

I will try anything right about now.

Question is, will i need to run these from another hd or can i do it from the drive in question?

It will be best to run it from another hard drive else you risk overwriting the data you want to recover.

Right thanks mate. I will need to re setup the boot menu to be able to access vista again.

Im in vista and im using stellar phoenix to search the drive. It hasnt turned up anything i recognise at the mo mind.

Unless i've got very confused you've not only formatted the drive but then overwritten the data on the drive with a new OS. I don't know how good it still is, but I used a program called getdataback a few years back. I managed to restore a large chunk of my so-called 'formatted data' but the chance of you recovering it all back are next-to-none.

In future, when you want to format 1 drive - best bet - to unplug the other :)

The good news is I can see all my files on the disk. The bad news is the pc blue screened on me during a restoration of one of the folders.

But still its very encouraging. Thanks to everybody on here for the help.

ps..

Does anyone know of any good Stellar Phoenix tutorials?

That was my first thought... I'd be surprised if everything can be recovered now :(

Good luck !

Chances are you will be able to see the files that were there, however when you recover them not all of them will be complete and some will be corrupted, unfortunately.
