I have just been setup with virgin and the internet isnt working and says dns server not responding. I have a superhub which is supplied via a cable not a phoneline.

I have windows vista and connected to the hub via wired. Now I still has the internet from sky via phoneline, they still havent fully canceled my connection, even though the sky account have been shutdown, so I can write this.

So I can connect to the the sky internet no problem but when I connect to the virgin media superhub via wired(my computer isnt wireless enabled), the internet is not coming through and windows reports the dns server isnt responding. I have checked with virgin and internet is being supplied by them and the hub is working. So im guessing my computer is blocking/has fault a connecting to the hub. I have looked over the web and cant find any solutions.

Thanks.

1. Check your network adapter settings are set to obtain BOTH DNS server AND IP Address automatically. They do

2. Check the DNS server IP addresses supplied in your end user documentation match those configured on the router's DHCP settings. How?
3. IF the DNS server addresses are correct, try pinging them to verify they are reachable. How?
4. If they are not reachable, ping 173.194.37.104 (www.google.co.uk) to verify the connection is actually live and working.

If the answer to 3 or 4 is No then you need to contact your ISP to find out why not.

If the answer to 3 and 4 is yes then try replacing the second DNS server in DHCP options with an address from OpenDNS' list of servers, reboot your PC and try again. Sometimes DNS servers do go down, having openDNS as a backup is always helpful.

The only paper work I got about the ip adresses etc is a sticker on the hub. I pinged the ip address that is on the hub and it is reachable. I pinged the numbers you gave me and it didnt work. But Im not sure if the ip adresses match. I cant see any DHCP setting on my hub setting, I see a wan DNS ip and its differant then my default. But the default ip address is on the hub setting but cant find the dchp dns ip. I have phoned virgin and the internet is being supplied and the hub is working, so I think the problem is between the hub and my comp

I have phoned virgin and they have activated it. Also tried turning it on and off etc.

My internet is working now but it worked for a very short while last time and went off, will this fix it? Thanks a lot btw.
And will this fix the problem altogether?

Its still working, so does that mean thats its unlikey to be computer related or that my pc is blocking the hub, and that its the ISP taking time to stabilize my connection?
