Hi as some people might know i got a Gigabyte 7970 WF yesterday.
Well i have issues which are a bit of a long story but please be patiient:(

Right for a year now i have been running an XFX 6970 2GB card in a built system ( i5 2500k @4.3, EK WC CPU,Corsair CX600 PSU, 8gb corsair at 1600hz,P8P67 Rev 3 MB, 120GB M4 crucial SSD and Samsung 1TB,lastly Samsung 27" 120hz monitor connected by Displayport)

I have been playing BF3 since launch and the new CQ pack with no problems, then last week i noticed playing Ziba Tower, when i turned quickly or moved fast i got this bright green tinge outline to certain objects:eek:
Like plants, ceiling jointss etc A bit like wire frame but you see it for a split second like a green static.
This isnt like some people had when BF3 was released some people reported big green flashes or glitches right across the screen, this is like just on the edge of items!

So i tried different drivers even though it was fine before but no change, tried to google the problem but couldn't find any answers!
I thought oh well i have a bit of cash and i wanted to upgrade anway so that gave me an incentive to upgrade to a 7970:)

So got this yesterday less than 24 hours after order (Thanks OC) downloaded and installed new drivers at this point at the end of the install where it give you a green tick and says view log it was an orange question mark and says warnings occured!

I remembered this done this when i tried updateing the drivers last time for my 6970 when i had the BF3 problem i thought wierd and looked at the log couldnt see where there were errors it just says errors at the bottom of the log but nothing underneath to explain.

I thought ok i'll try it and just use differnt drivers if it doesn't work, to the benchmarks, tried 3D mark 11 and Heaven got good results no artifacts so was happy:)

Then i booted BF3 up went to a Ziba Tower server and to my surprise the same green tinge outline very now and again appearing on objects:(

Tried a few other maps including the stock and i get it on these to.
So tried a couple of other drivers by uninstalling and using drive sweeper but everytime i was geting the orange question mark at the end of the install pointing to maybe some errors occured!
Also i found after numerous driver installs that on the update page it doesn't list the version number anymore and even if you use an old driver and try auto update it says upto date:(

CCCupdate.jpg

So uninstall/drive sweep doesn't matter what i do i get the same 2 problems i even tried regerstry cleaner but the same.

Now this is where it gets strange, i have dual boot PC i have Windows 7 on my SSD and I have Windows 7 on my Samsung 1TB, basicly when i upgraded to SSD i left it on there so any problems i can go into that drive as well as using it as a storage drive.
Well i have BF3 on this so i thought i would boot to my old drive try BF3 on that, but again same green tinge appears!
So i am scratching my head.
Heres the facts:

1)BF3 was playing fine then started getting these green outlines on my 6970, driver change no effect. Think it's a GPU hardware problem.

2)Buy new 7970 the same results so can't be GPU.

3)Driver issue perhaps? well tried istaliing numerous and on both i get the view log error, strange.

4) Try differnt drive with Windows 7 exactly the same results so can't be my BF3 install, i tried Crysis 2 and Batman and they seem fine so you would think it's the game but i have tried on 2 drives and no one else seems to be reporting these problems!

Is it possible the PCI slot is faulty i do have another but to try the GPUin that i would have to remove Samsung drive as it won't fit otherwise.

Please Please help, my last resort is a reinstall of Windows ,which while being nice and fast on an SSD drive installing everything else i have on here now will take time.
Sorry if its a bit long winded i appreciate you reading.

Perhaps its your monitor/cable? Seems like a strange problem.
Are you sure you havent been taking any banned substances before gaming?:D

Ha hano, i thought maybe its my cable so i tried HDMI as i use Displayport to get 120hz but it does it on HDMI as well on 60hz.
Thanks

Also it doesn't explain the driver issue seem it could be certain thing affecing the driver but why on both drives i'm very confused.

That is a weird one, and you say no one else is reporting this strange graphical issue?

Is it the same if you set everything to low and turn off AA/AF etc.?

Did you try the old previous driver on your 6970 again that you were using before the issue started occurring or have you only tried later/beta drivers?

Hi yeah its a wierd one, the driver i was using with my 6970 was fine until i started getting that green edge weirdness i think it was 12,6 so tried other drivers but the same so i thought gotta be a hardware issue that was one reason for buying the 7970 and i have googled and no one seems to have the problem, there were issues for the 1st few months with BF3 people had with with artifacts. But mine was fine then this happened.
Thanks

Is it affecting the edge of everything or just certain objects? Does changing your gfx card settings make things more or less pronounced at all?

Edit:
Ignore the first part, I just reread your post.

Hi again , no it doesn' affect all edges and you dont see it most of the time but if you turn realy quickly some times you get like a green statcic on the edges and different graphical settings don't make a difference. Its just this combined with the driver install issues, warnings and no display of the driver number has got me stumped, even a fresh instal i can't see how that would help because it does it on my other drive. Has anyone ever heard of a PCi slot doing this?
Thanks

Hi mei at the moment BF3 and most people would think its just that game but like i say i have these driver issues as well and BF3 was fine i haven't had to update BF3 and it went that way it just happend.
thanks

I've never heard of a PCI slot doing something so specific on just one game, if it was buggered you'd think it would affect everything or at least a few other titles.

You seem to have eliminated the bulk of the possible hardware errors, stab in the dark but have you tried swapping out your RAM and just using each stick alone to see if it does anything? Doubt it but worth it for a 5 minute job.

If it was me I'd bite the bullet and go for a complete reinstall of Windows, fresh driver and BF3 install and see what happens. For the amount of time you'll spend reinstalling drivers and playing with cards this might actually be a quicker option in the long run.

yeh re-reading it..
it did the same thing with your old card?
i understand why you think it might be the pci slot

i guess you could try saving your oc profile then resetting defaults, could be some weird setting in your bios

does your mobo have a 2nd pci-e you could try it in, even if its 8x or something atleast it would let you rule it out

Kranix and Mei will try both worth a try my 2nd pci is a bugget to get 2 but worth a go.
Thanks

Hi space monkey just about to try another monitor, clutching at straws at the moment just tried the other pci slot the same but the card must run slower in that slot seem to get screen tearing. So monitor quick memory test then all fails reinstall
Thanks

Right i may have fixed it!
I connected to my other Samsung monitor which is a 60hz monitor so i plugged in the HDMI and it said something about would i like to config AMD audio something along them lines wish i had taken more notice, i had CCC open at the time and when i chose no or something along them lines, CCC displayed the driver number 12.3!
I went into BF3 and it was fine at 60hz lots of screen tearing because this cards a monster!
I thought great but i hope it still works on my 120hz Samsung so first i went back tried with HDMI all was fine then went back to Displayport at 120hz and it works!
So this is some kind of audio issue, i have disabled Realtek in Bios as i remember people having problems with BF3, and as i use Logitech headphones i disabled that in bios ages ago.
So still not exactly sure why it did that, may try later drivers gain see what happens fingers crossed.
Thanks to everyone for their advice.
Spoke to soon thought i'd try a later driver and gain once installed i get that question mark warning, but does seem to be working fine in BF3, i wll go for a fresh install.

Hi Mate!
Have you tried not using ccc?
Funny thing but i had a 6850 and i used to get this install issue when installing new drivers. I would try re-installing the drivers (a pain in the arse i know) Then slect custom and just tick the drivers and any other importnant software. And totally forget about ccc. Iv never had this issue again may be worth a shot.
I currently run trixx with a 7850 for all my overclocking needs.

Edit= Sorry forgot to ask what does it say in the install log about the warnings when it errors? Just read again sorry it doesnt say!

Hi rick may give that a go as I usually use msi afterburner anyway I never really touch settings in CCC .
Does bug me though so may still go ahead with a win 7 reinstall
Thanks
