Hello,
I built a system with socket 775 2.2 pentium but since changing the mobo I cannot get the computer to post or beep. I have tried different memory a different mobo and tried to get the system to boot with no hdd or dvd drive connected but all that happens is a green power light on the mobo and the 2 system fans come on. i have reseated the cpu etc what is going on here I am confused lol.

Does the board need an additional power supply close to the cpu socket? a 4pin or 8pin?

Try a clear cmos/remove battery for a minute.

Some system specs would be useful also:)

there is a 4pin socket near the cpu and I have already put the 4 pin plug into it but still the same. Tried just one strip of memory but still the same.

system spec is:

Asus P5B-TMX/S Socket 775
Pentium 2.66ghz/2m/533
2x 1ghz ddr2 dimm

That's the paper clip test stulid was talking about.

Are the motherboard standoffs in the right place?

Have you connected the front panel power buttons?

Hello again,
tried taking the cmos battery out leaving it a few minutes and then putting it back still the same no posting or beeps etc. Just done the paperclip trick psu stays on so I guess thats ok. The psu is a Hipro 300watt. the graphics will be whatever is on the asus P5B-TMX/s mobo.

I have the wiring the front panel on off switch which functions correctly. There is no stand offs on the mobo the case has humped metal bits which line up with the mobo screw holes.

Does it turn on at all? Like a fan starts spinning and then stops, or does literally nothing happen like there is no power?

I have tried with the drives attached and unattached earlier still no joy. will the mobo post without a cpu? or memory? how can i test if its the cpu thats gone? I assume the cpu i put in the board is compatible with the board. I only know that the cpu and board are socket 775

You need CPU and memory, and a GPU if there is no integrated GPU.

YOu should have some post code warning / error, or some beeps. If it's beeps, you may need to attach a little speaker thing on the front case headers. Or plug in the case speaker.

Part 2 shows how to post a barebone system, using the core components, and shorting the two 'power' pins on the front case headers to similate a power button.

Hello guys,
on the off chance i had a strip of ddr2 512mb ram and put that in the mobo and it posts and is loading windows. does that mean my 2x 1 gig ram that i got is faulty or not compatible with my board? The details on the memory is 1G533 UL 002EJCJ463
