mobo = Gigabyte K8nxpsli
cpu = amd 3800+x2
Graphics card = x2 78000gt
memory = x2 1gig geil ddr2 3200

Can anyone help please im trying to overclock my cpu to 2.4 as i understand this should not be a problem with the 3800+x2. I have looked around and found a few guides but my motherboards bios has different settings than any guide i can find for example, i have to press ctrl f1 to get the m.i.t tweeker up in the bios, and once i enter this the settings are all different from the guides. I believe i need to under clock my ram in the m.i.t to 333 before i overclock my cpu but im not sure what settings i need to change?

Can anyone help im new to overclocking and im a bit weary of messing about with speeds and voltages when i dont really know what im doing. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi and welcome :)

Ensure your DDR Voltage is set to whatever your memory needs (2.6v is 'Normal', so +0.1v for 2.7v and +0.2v for 2.8v).

Drop the Max Memclock down to 166mhz to start with (this is the same as the 333mhz setting on other boards).

Then drop the HT Frequency to x4.

Ensure CPU Spread spectrum is disabled and the PCIE Clock is set to 100mhz, and then start raising the CPU Frequency til the computer won't boot. Then raise the CPU Voltage Control a notch or two and try again.

Just keep an eye on your load temps when using Orthos to test.

Ok cheers for the advice Cob i recognise the settings your talking about and i will give it a go over the weekend. Will i be ok to jump straight upto 2.4 or should i go up in stages? also what is orthos i pressume its some sort of benchmark tool where would i get it and is it straight forward to use?

Thanks again for your help:):):)

Yeah going straight in at 2.4ghz should be fine. Tho I don't know if the X2 3800+ will do it on stock volts.

And you can get Orthos from here. It'll stress the CPU to check if it's stable.
