Hi guys.

Need some help here from you machine builders. my pc started playing up recently, it started turning itself off or would crash randomly.
so i began the process of elimination and started replacing parts (not the best way to diagnose a fault, i know, but i'm too impatient)

anyway, the reason i have come stuck now is that i have replaced every possible part on the pc (except dvd drive and a multi card reader usb thing)

iv changed the psu, cpu, mobo, ram, HDD, now using the inbuilt gpu on mobo, what else could cause an issue.

i have tried to install a new copy of xp but before it can complete an installation, it just turns off or gives a B.S.O.D:mad:

the whole unit is conected up through a surge protector multi plug, do you think this could be an issue?

i am totally lost as to what else i could try

You can exclude the minutely small chance that the surge protector is causing problems by simply not using it.

If you’ve replaced all the parts you mentioned then you’ve basically got a new PC.

If you want help you’re going to need to provide specifics about the original PC components, and the replacement components.

If the problem really is as obscure as you suggest you may be better off taking it to someone in the know to have a look at.

i will try without the surge protector, the reason i mentioned it was because that is the only thing i could think of going wrong as it just re-starts even after replacing nearly everything.

i am usually ok with diagnosing issues, but have come stuck with this, have double checked everything is on securely, cpu cooler (with tim) applied.

do you think if it's a motherboard/ram mismatch.

the pc parts i have:

mobo: MSI P7NGM-Digital
cpu: dual core e4500
ram: crucial ballistix 2 x 1gb (have also tried 2x1GB Corsair Value Select)
psu: Antec 500w ( have had a tagan 580w)
hdd: 80gb raptor

any error messages or codes ?

not alway get an error code, has blue screened once or twice, not always

Well you can try it without the USB card reader and the surge protector, just to see if it works. No reason why either of these should be the culprit, but seeing as you've swapped out everything else it's only logical to drop them and find out.

Did the nature of the failure change at all as you were changing parts, or has it basically done the same BSOD thing all the way through?

yeah was going to try an install with bare minimum.

i rarely get a bsod, when it was running, it used to crash/freeze or reboot.

now it is rebooting when installing xp :(

i'm not a noob at systems installs but can't think of anything, just baffling.

anyway will try above and see how i get on
