I do not have a clue why, but my iphone has decided to delete all of its contacts....

4 years of numbers lost, I have just plugged in my iphone into itunes and the last backup other than the one that it just created was April 2012 :/

Any help would be appreciated, what about if I restore my Macbook to 2 days ago to get an old itunes backup of my iphone - would this work?

It looks as though a one way sync has occurred Macbook > iPhone. Do you have iCloud backup enabled?

I doubt the Macbook restore would work if it didn't have a copy of your phone contacts 2 days ago.

Haven't you got a backup in iCloud? Not sure how you restore from iCloud though without wiping the phone and doing a complete restore. Not sure if you can selectively restore individual apps.

Go to settings/icloud on your phone. Make sure you are logged with your Apple ID.

Contacts should be on, click on it to turn it off and choose keep (even though you show no contacts)
When the process is done go ahead and turn on contacts again, choose merge. All your contacts should show up if you had a previous backup to icloud.

You don't have to restore your phone.

Interesting. Does this action work for every app that is backed up? So if I deleted my Plants vs Zombies app for example, would performing the above restore the save game?

Oddly mine did the same on the 3rd. No idea why, random reboot and contacts were gone.
