just finnished my oc got my q6600 from 2.6ghz to 3.78ghz only changing the cpu and dram voltage but i was wondering if i could get it higher and stabalize it but as this is my first venture into overclocking i dont understand the other voltages and all the guides and tips ive read have different lables on the voltages so can anybody clear this up for me

Thats allready a very good overclock on that cpu, so for ur first overclock very nicely done, iv never overclocked quads, so i won't really be of any help but im sure some of the more experienced qaud clockers will post soon enough.

Ok probably best to post what ur settings are for that overclock and ur temps too, that way others will be able to say if u need to change anything at all.

not sure on settings at the moment but im getting idle temp of 34-36 and under 100% load im getting 59-62 and this on air when i watercool im pretty sure they will drop even more

The temps are fine so no need to worry there, and yeh no worries about the settings now, just others may want to know later is all. But again nice clock for ur first attempt.

What are you using to check those temps? 59-62 seems very low to me at 3.78ghz (which by the way is a great clock on a Q6600!).

Is that full (100%) load on all 4 cores using Prime95?

Can we see what settings (voltages etc) you are using?

Can you post temps (screenshot) at full load using CoreTemp or RealTemp?

For a first time OC, that is an amazing clock, what stabiltiy testing have you done, and as other have asked, what monitoring software have you used for these readings and what settings have you got in the bios, or are you using a software tool to OC?

turns out that ai suite aint too good at readin temps used core temp and its reachin 81 degrees so i think ill need to get my wc parts sooner than i thought but any way here is some pics from the bois showin my voltages and fsb ect

sorry about the flash the fsb is 425 and the mutiplier is 9

Would be intersting to see what some of those voltages left on auto are being reported as in Windows. AI Suite might tell you.

I suspect they could be very VERY high. Normally its not a good idea to leave the P5Q boards on auto when overclocking as they have a tendancy to set really high voltages.

Can you check the voltages in Windows and report back with them? Would hate to see you fry your CPU/board from dodgy auto settings.

The voltages that would concern me are...

CPU PLL
FSB Termination
NB
SB

...especially the PLL as that board does really whack this up when clocking.

i would not use a1 suite to monitor your temps i would use core temp as i have used a1 suite in the past and found that it always displays low temps or you can download occt which does a cpu stress test and monitors your temps at the same time and gives a much more reliable reading than a1 suite
