Hey Guys,

I'm looking to buy a new monitor and have been having real trouble deciding on a decent one to buy. I've read so many articles with conflicting opinions that I'm really not sure what to choose. I'm also confused as to the validity of the claims about LED screens and if they are worth it.

I've also read quite a few of the threads on these forums but still haven't been able to settle on one.

Anyway, here are my requirements.

Price Range: £150 - £300

1. A good size (24in and up).

2. Resolution compatible with a 2010 model 15inch macbook pro (the main computer that will be connected to it).

3. Good colors, clarity and detail for my work (I am a freelance web developer) (IPS panel?).

4. Decent for gaming/HD video (response time?).

5. HDMI and DVI inputs.

I've been considering the IIyama Prolite E2472HD 24" but am unsure - Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks!

I suggest having a look at the Dell U2311H. It is an E-IPS, 23in, 1920x1080 monitor. It is a bit smaller than specified - but for this budget it is one of the very best options if you want good image quality and decent responsiveness. Here is an in-depth review.

This thread should provide some food for thought and help to dispell any misconceptions people may have given you regarding LED-backlit computer monitors. You are right to be curious about IPS monitors and there is no need to worry about the responsiveness of modern IPS monitors as they are more than adequate for most gaming.

Hey cmndr_andi, thanks for the suggestion - I have to say on reading your review I was thinking "Yes, finally I can buy this monitor" - unfortunately though theres a problem - the U2311H doesn't have an HDMI input, which would be really usefull for me. I took a look at the rest of the Dell's on OCUK and the next model up is over £200 dearer. Any suggestions?

Do you really need the HDMI input?

The Dell has a displayport input - so it could connect to a new mac (or DX11 graphics card) via that. Also, using this adapter you can plug an HDMI cable into the monitor (via the DVI slot) and get the same image quality as a standard DVI cable.
