Hi everyone, total n00b here so be gentle.
I've never owned a laptop before only ever used windows PCs. All I ever heard years back was people complaining that the batteries run down quickly. I'd like to be able to do some work in the garden and other rooms around the house.
I know NOTHING about portable computing. I don't even know if I need a laptop, notebook or Chromebook or something else I've never heard of.
It would be good to have something with a fairly large screen that doesn't suffer in outdoor light, I can barely see my iphone 6s screen in certain conditions.
I don't play games so i'm not looking for a gaming rig but it would be nice to be able to watch and stream HD content.
I don't know if it's popular to rely on external storage drives rather than buy a laptop with huge amounts of hard disk space. I just want something that will run Office suite, programs and lots of internet tabs quickly and without fuss. I already have a 1tb WD passport at my disposal for storage.
Do I need to buy a wifi dongle or something for it to run off my talktalk router home network or is all that capability built in to modern laptops?
My budget is £500-800 or thereabouts. I'm not a fan of Currys and places like that after bad experiences with faulty tvs but they do offer cashback deals sometimes. Is it better to go to a specialist, an off the shelf or a build your own option for my requirements?
to clarify, I need:
*Large screen
*Windows 10 included
*ability to connect easily to home router
*good enough processor/RAM to run word, excel, utilities and browsers simultaneously etc without laggy performance
*good enough gpu to stream HD video occasionally
*decent brand with good reliable reputation
I've probably missed a bunch of important stuff but I'd be really grateful for any tips or ideas from people who have any experience and knowledge they are wiling to share.
