Please help me confirm if my processor is faulty

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.66GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor - Retail. Hi i recently bought this processor and rest of the stuff to make a new computer for myself. The motherboard is Asus Rampage Formula Intel X48 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard.

Problem i had after putting everything together, checking over all the connections that when i turned it on, all the motherboard lights came on everything worked fine apart from the fact that there was nothing on the screen the pc wasnt posting and the motherboards error LCD poster showed the error CPU initialise. So i began testing all the parts in my brothers computer and everything was working apart from the processor, thus to reconfirm that it was the processor which was faulty i put the new system back together again and used my old processor. It worked, everything was running fine on my old processor thus this surely has to be a faulty processor or am i missing something obvious?

Its highly unlikely that an Intel CPU would be faulty on receipt.

You may need to upgrade the bios, although I would have thought that your board would support the CPU with the shipped bios.

Get the latest bios here

(Key in your Mobo and it will link you to latest bios)

If you arent sure how to upgraade the bios, ask and someone will give you some tips
 
yes thats what i thought, how can it be the processor? just doesnt make sense and ofc i have played around with motherboard. I have tested each part on the other computer one by one and everything works apart from the processor. On my own motherboard it keeps giving me a cpu init error but if i replace the CPU with my older CPU it turns on straightaway no problems and my brothers motherboard is the Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi Intel P35

and how can i fix this problem dutch guy? i have a Hiper 880W HPU-4M880 SLi Capable ATX 2.2 PSU, do you think the psu is faulty? but even so it should still work in my brothers computer which is already powering a quad and has a even better power supply than mine. Also how can i fix the bios if it does not support the CPU, because i bought this mother board as it was recommended on these forums and this CPU was also in the spec, i am pretty sure it should be able to support this processor out of the box if not i am still trying the asustek website for the newest bios but to no avail... after making all the right selections it just takes me to a blank page and says done in my firefox.
 
A 880W PSU is plenty of power, I doubt that is faulty, one thing to check is if you connected the 4-pin or 8-pin auxillary power connector to the mobo.

I also did a quick check at some reviews showed that a Quad COre should work fine.
 
If in doubt always check the manufacturers forums for possible fixes. Asus has a big thread about the CPU init problem with several fixes here. It may not be for your particular board but there is still a good chance the fixes will work.
 
guys thank you for all your help, the problem is now fixed basically the quad wasnt getting the power it needed since i was using a 4 pin instead of a 8pin to power it, thankyou once again :) im very happy that its up and running

It's happened to us all. You think you have everything connected up right, spend hours fault finding only to find it was a silly oversight.

hehe got another small problem, i dont know how to install 8gb of Ram on this system because it is not posting when i put in 8gb, the ram i am using is 2x 4gb of twin2x4096-8500c5df Dominator. I know some one told me that i needed to change a few settings in the bios like ram voltage or somthing but i dont know which i would be really grateful if some 1 pointed me in the right direction. The pc is posting fine with just 4gb of ram.
 
ok a little update guys, one of the packs of the corsair dominator ram is faulty i couldnt get 8gb of ram to post but 4gb was posting so i took one pair of sticks out and put the other pair in and tried to boot the pc with those and yep it posted but during booting it gave me a blue screen and restarted. I tried these sticks which give me a blue screen in my brothers pc aswell but they crashed his computer after a while but it did start up, where as in mine they give me a blue screen. So i guess i will just have to RMA these and wait for new ones, in the mean while can some one inform me how to install 8gb of corsair dominator ram on the Asus Rampage formula, as in what settings in the bios do i need to change. Thank you for all your help and patience guys.

Edit - going to add this to the memory forums on this website, just realised this is the cpu section hehe :)
