Upgrading a rig for a mate, but going over back and forth and cant decide. Here are the options and prices:

Powercoler AMD 6990 LCS - £583.97 Delivered - Brand new + warranty

or

EVGA GTX 590 Classified Hydro Copper - £542.41 Delivered - Used, no warranty or trust seller to help

If im spending that much money on a graphics card, i want the longest warranty and best peace of mind i can get.

whats the better card? faster etc

The guy selling the EVGA has registered it with evga but that would ultimately leave me relying on him.

Iw just about every review ive seen the 6990 is the faster of the two, theres obviously been driver improvements from both sides since release but id imagine the 6990 is still ahead by a nose.

I could be wrong here but i thought that sort of thing was standard procedure in the members market? That the person who sells you the product will help with any warranty issues.

Not necessarily true but since the guy registered the card with EVGA, doesn't that mean there is still warranty? I thought EVGA were among the few to do this?

If EVGA_Nick is around he'll be able to answer some questions.

im not sure evga allow you to transfer warranty?

Went for the 6990 with an ek en nickel block, can hit 1ghz core on bios 2 stock voltage, temps rarely go above 40 degrees. The 6990 is the quicker card overall.

99% ive done something stupid but went for the GTX 590 lol (nervous laughter)

The GTX 580 Hydro copper is £600 in the UK, dont think the 590 Hydro is available in the UK but if the 580 Hydro is £600 i could imagine the 590 Hydro being well over a £1000.

Lets just pray it doesnt go wrong or could be a massive loss...

Correct. EVGA warranties are non-transferable except where superseded by local laws, like the 2 year minimum warranty in Europe. This means 2 years from the original purchase date with a copy of the original purchase invoice/receipt. Extended warranties (anything past two years) are not valid on any imported or re-sold products.

To contrast, in North America, as soon as an EVGA product is resold/changes hands there is no more warranty.

EVGA GTX 590s are only available directly from the EVGA store in Europe due to very limited quantities. You will not see them in stores anywhere in Europe unless that reseller has imported it themselves from North America in which case warranty may be tricky...
