Please help me, I'm going crazy, nvidia driver failed install

Hello there, starting today when saw i have an update for my 2080ti in nvidia experience, as normal I downloaded it and tried to install it only this time it said failed......
I tried custom, failed, express, failed......

Uninstall the drivers I had and the experience.
Downloaded fresh... Failed
Download experience, failed.

DDU in safe mode, tried again, failed.
Windows update, downloading nvidia 27.something. Installing, failed.... No reasons why for any of these.

Tried deleting from services, from the hard drive, from the registry. Running ccleaner.. Tried again and failed.

Please for the love of everything someone help me

Might be worth scanning the registry for any keys that might be lingering.

Does it work if you 'run as administrator'?

It doesn't work however I try. I will search the registry for nvidia now

Which anti-virous software are you running?

I've tried using DDU, ive tried using an old driver, I've tried using the Dhc driver, not a custom bios.
So strange that I was just playing games and then updated the driver like I've done many many times for it to fail

I had this on my 1080ti a while back, but mine happened when my control panel decided to go loopy. Tried uninstall and reinstall drivers and it just kept failing.
Don't know if you've tried but I used ddu and disabled windows auto updates through it which got mine to install. Was a windows conflict with mine where it was messing about in the background trying install its own drivers and screwing everything up.

It won't even install windows update version, that fails too.
it says generic vga device in the device manager. And when I try to update it, it just says Windows failed to update this device. No explanation or error code

In gpuz all the boxes are just blank also....

So weird to be playing a game and then such a massive problem to happen just updating the driver

Wonder if DDUs borked it, and removed stuff it shouldn't have, as seen it many times, after people using DDU, their not able to get any drivers at all on, why id never use it.

It failed before i DDU it. From the nvidia experience app when it told me there was an update, that was the first fail. This then caused me to DDU.

@bru I tried this already, the registry is clean, the restore points have been erased without my knowledge due to a windows update in the past

Just a guess but uninstall msi afterburner if you have it or any other monitoring programs.

If that fails i would install windows on a different hdd and if it still wont work then at least you have your old windows to go back to if you need it.

If all else fails the only option left appears to be fire. Simply put card in fire and walk away This is how you solve problems in life!

Especially nvidia cards

Well I wasn't going to say! You know in the name of being impartial and all that, I think I said this to you when were were chatting on the phone, you can't deny that it is a good card, for me? Nope, but for the hardcore gamers it's the dream right? At the end of the day if it were my card I would still lick it. Probably tastes like chicken, most things do. Before anybody asks standard practice is to lick anything new, otherwise how do you know what it tastes like?

If I have to rma it, I'm going to lick it first, if I learnt anything from you it's that I have to make sure it tastes like chicken or I might as well get amd again. At least I know they do!

Tried everything suggested, nothing worked in the slightest, always ended with it failing to install the driver
I even tried to reset windows and keep the files, that even failed.
So I'm doing a fresh install of Windows now. Maybe it will work after that....

Still copying important files from my boot drive before I wipe it. Won't find out until morning now I think.. What a stupid problem to have, nvidia update destroying my entire Windows build

No, it got to the post where it restarts and then said not installation failed

Yea I'd go with RAM before drive. Let the pulling out sticks of memory and factory resetting the bios commence.

Bios is all default.... So this is all a bit worrying. The fear is approaching me very swiftly. I'm at work atm so I can't even proceed

One stick at a time on the memory, what memory is it out of interest? I can't taste any G-Skill. If it is the nvme hit me up and ill give you a new one

Might be worth running a chkdsk /f on the drive to see if you have any errors will need to run in a admin command box

Ahh thats why I couldn't detect it... Too expensive for me I only have 8 sticks of the Standard Trident z 3466 cl16 (peasant spec)

Peasant spec but kingly amounts beats my royal speed

Compete fresh install of Windows fixed whatever the problem was. Still have no idea why it happened and why it couldn't be fixed, I tried every single thing you guys suggested and nothing worked bar fresh install.
