Hi All,

I'm new to forum and really need your help.

I have a tired old Dell that I use for mainly for the odd photo video editing/music general PC work and the odd game here and there.

I have some components already, I have

Samsung 128pro SSD drive.
Blueray Drive
Soundcard

I have around £400 to get the rest? what would you recomend? I forgot to say I will use onboard graphics for now and buy proper graphics card later if it will help build.

I do like the bitfenix prodigy cases but worry if it will be good for future proof/expansion? its going to be under my desk so not really bothered

Any Help much appreciated

thanks

Rob

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You are not likely to get a Prodigy, as it will take up a large portion of your budget.
Something like this, assuming you can reuse your hdd.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail £185.99
1 x Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £89.99
1 x Thermaltake Smart 530W '80 Plus' Power Supply £49.99
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU) £43.99
1 x Xigmatek Asgard Pro Gaming Case - Black £32.99
Total : £417.05 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Thanks for your help. I will use old HDD.

Would I be better off buying a motherboard bundle? as i have never built a pc before and worried about putting it together and getting compatability problem?

Thanks

Rob

The only problem usually is some coolers can be fiddly to install. The stock one takes about 10 seconds. You'd have the CPU in, the cooler fitted and the RAM inserted in about a minute or two.

Just check here with components about compatibility.

If you're not going to be doing anything very CPU intensive (I don't mean photo editing etc.), I'd be more inclined to go with an AMD A10-6800K, since it will do for light gaming without having to buy a separate card. e.g. this will run Half Life 2 at max settings at 1080p.

e.g.

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD A10-6800K Black Edition 4.10GHz (Socket FM2) APU Richland Quad Core Processor (AD680KWOHLBOX) £119.99
1 x MSI A75IA-E53 AMD A75 Chipset (Socket FM2) DDR3 Mini ITX Motherboard £69.95
1 x BitFenix Prodigy 'Yin' Mini-ITX Cube Case - White/Black £69.95
1 x TeamGroup Xtreem LV 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (TXD38G2400HC10QDC01) £59.99
1 x XFX Pro 450W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £39.95
Total : £371.82 (includes shipping : £10.00).

If you buy a bundle you still have to install it. As long as you follow the instructions in the mobo manual, you will be fine. If you buy a build we have specced, there should not be any compatability issues. Watch a couple of the video tutorials in the link below and see how easy and straight forward, it really is.
