Hi guys, I have got to build a computer for my father in law as a birthday / Christmas present. I was hoping to be able to go to an I5 because he will be using it for his work all the time. He is constantly on the net with a pc and he makes web sites part time. I need it to be ultra reliable too because if it crashed and lost his information then I would be in the dog house!

So I am open to any suggestion really and it can use the on board graphics card and ideally would have 2 x 500 Gb hard drives in it. I don't know anything about AMD processors that's why I went I5. So here is the the budget....

Don't laugh...

£350...

What do you think? Am I dreaming...

Any help really appreciated ...

To be honest I wanted to give him the best I could that will last a few years. He has a habit of just downloading tons of business information and keeping it for another day if you know what I mean. That is why I want 2 x hard drives so he can be taught to store it on a separate drive and not slow up the computer with it. He quite often does several different things at once on it so that's why I thought I5.

I think any case would be fine. As long as its got room for a cd drive and a couple of hard disks.

As you can guess I am a novice at this myself so apologies if I don't understand properly your questions.

I thought maybe this power supply

I was going to use 1drive for the operating system and all his program's he has and then the other drive for storage.

I would not need the windows 8 software because I have a windows 7 disk to use.

Not bad for a first try. I do wonder what the power supply is like in a £30 case?

Thanks for the help

If you don't need an OS, it's do-able.

Upgraded CPU, 8 GB RAM and no OS.

If you put the first CPU back, you should have enough for a 2nd hard drive if you really want one.

Check that mobo will fit in the case and check the CPU is right for the mobo (no BIOS updates required) before you place an order. (should be OK though)

Is there anything else from his old PC you can salvage?

Not really anything salvageable from his PC. I do have a brand new 500 watt modular power supply that I purchased for my self a couple of months ago that if I really had to I would donate but only if I had to! :-))

Just select a different case and use that then.
