Hi all - long time no post. I've been putting together a second-hand budget Haswell build for my son as a first machine... but when trying to run an i3 I'm getting a black screen. I've tried all sorts and am now out of ideas - any suggestions?!

* Bought an Asus H81M-K from online auction site.
* Bought 8GB DDR3 from online auctionn site.
* Bought Pentium G3220 from online auction site.
* Built PC, works fine, updated to latest BIOS, still works fine.

* Bought i3-4150 and installed - powered up but black screen.
* Re-installed G3220, PC posts.
* Much testing, but presumed bad processor.

* Bought another i3-4150 AND an i3-4160 - both power up but still black screen!
* Re-install G3220, PC posts.

* Much testing, and thinking processors can't now be bad.

I have tried the following without any success:

* CLEARED CMOS.
* REMOVED BATTERY.
* REMOVED RAM STICK COMBINATIONS.
* SWAPPED GPU.
* DOWNGRADED BIOS TWICE.

Help :confused:

Was the Asus board purchased as a new unused item, a used item listed as fully functioning or just a used item? If everything is installed correctly inc bios and the rest of the parts work as they should, I would guess a faulty board.

BIOS when I purchased was 0304 - the earliest one. I discovered this when I originally installed the G3220. I then installed the very latest, 3602, and the G3220 continued to work as expected.

I therefore expected all i3s to just... work. When they didn't, I downgraded BIOS to 3601 and then 0805 with still no joy.
