Please help me trying to fix a laptop !

It's an Inspiron 1300 laptop running on windows.

It boots ok then when it gets to the desktop it freezes, no icons are displayed and the cursor won't move.

I spent all day running a Kaspersky boot disk virus checker to no avail

any ideas ?

Does it boot off CD?

Yes I tried Bart's PE and the Kaspersky antivirus disk

reinstall xp, or at least put the xp cd in and try to repair windows.

a reasonable time couple of minutes. Sometimes it doesn't make it and stalls on the login screen. Once it looked like the desktop was working but then froze. :confused:

Use the PE disk to run a chkdsk /f /r

Yup, do a chkdsk /r.
