Hi folks...

My current pc has become an ageing beast on the verge of meltdown. It was/is a self build itself, put together by my brother.

I've decided after 5 years of tinkering with upgrades and replacement parts, i feal confident enough to attempt to build a new one myself.

I cannot get help from my bro as he is many hundreds of miles away and not contactable, so i hope you good people will be able to help with the fine details of my build.

Here's what i've picked out so far from OcUK:

I also have a couple of 500GB sata HDD's that can be butchered from my old/current computer... and further down the line i will be intending on picking up a couple more HDD's

Now.. this is where the help is needed:

1) I have no idea what cables i will need - could someone point me in the right direction (remembering i will want connections for upto 6 HDD's)

2) Have i missed anything blindingly obvious off the shopping list?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Many thanks

ADE

hey just checked my antec case and my graphics card blocks of one of the hardrive bays so if you want to use the antec 300 case you will have to loose one of your hardrives. You will get all the cables you require in your motherboard box you wont need any more. also of you checked out this bundle its a nice overclock and the hard work is done

erm, if you want 6 hard drives you'll need to pick up some extra SATA cables such as these

motherboards generally only come with two and you'll need one for each drive.

also you might want consider a modular psu as they really help to tidy up the internal cables.

Wow, i didn't expect so many replies so quick :)

I'll try and answer some of the points raised:

I guess if the GFX card blocks access to a HDD bay i can live with just 5.

I did notice the 'overclocked bundle' - i decided to give it a miss simple because the "UD3" mobo only has the 4 memory slots.

I'm a touch confused about the Sata PCI controller - as i'm apparently now down to 5 possible drives, would the controller need to be for 2 and the mobo does the other 3? Also how do you know there's 3 on the mobo, i can't see that on the spec sheet!

EDIT: - OK more of you have replied while i was composing that reply :)

Theres 6, dont worry about it, if you ever did need more then you can buy a card which plugs into one of the PCI slots and gives you more SATA connectors but you shouldnt really need to do this anyway
Edit: correction theres 8, link
