long story short...got a friend's laptop and want to install vista basic on it but wont let me.

problem started when the laptop had so many virus's that it wouldnt even get into window's i had to plug the hard drive into my pc and get some info of.

i formatted the drive with my window's and got a new copy of vista basic to install but it will not let me install it and i get this message....

windows boot manager

a recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged,or might be malicious software from an unknown source.

if you have a windows installation disc, insert the disc and restart your ccomputer.click "repair your computer" and then choose a recovery tool.

otherwise,to start windows so you can investigate further, press the enter key to display the boot menu.press f8 for advanced boot options and select last known good,if you understand why the digital signature cannot be verified and want to start windows without this file temporarily disable driver signature enforcement.

status: 0xc0000428

info:windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file.

any help would be a blessing.

many thanks

Might wish to try deleting the partition on the drive and creating a new partition and see if that helps any.

What happens when you press F8 and select last known good?

Are you getting into the Vista installation? When it boots up does it say "press any key to boot from CD/DVD"?

after many hour's i found the problem.

the 1st problem was the 2 partition's that had to be made into one.

the 2nd problem which kinda wound me up was a bad stick of ram.

many thanks for the reply's guys
