3 long beeps = graphics card not plugged in properly.

I've tried the combinations of:
1x 5770
1x 6780
2x 6780

All in the PCIE-16 slot. It keeps doing 3 long beeps which is gfx card not plugged in properly.

The mobo has no onboard graphics. The mobo is this one:
Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard

Any ideass on what I should be trying to fix this? I've attempted removing certain components but it's always a 3 beep error.

I had this issue a few days ago
Mine was
No Display
or something like that
I found that one of those 4 plug things was plugged in, but one was unplugged somehow!

Check and re-check your wiring.

Try putting it in the other slot and not the 16x and see what happens

I have a BeQuiet dark power pro 750w power supply. It has three PCI-E slots on it, which I connect directly from the PSU to the backs of the graphics cards. The ends of the power cables are blue ones labelled "VGA1", "VGA2" etc. The 6780 takes 2 of these, the 5770 takes one.

Do the graphic cards require a 6-pin power cable plugged in? That's the only thing I can think of that might cause the beeping, if you forgot to power them.

Edit: Ah, just read your above post, nevermind then.

Are they long beeps or short beeps? Reading up on your motherboard manual and it states long beeps are graphics card related, short beeps are power related.

Tried all the slots with only one card in at a time? Could be a graphics card gone wrong?

You can try and reset the CMOS, might have changed something in the BIOS settings that caused foul play.

You could also go to a mtes quickly and test your cards at a mates computer.
Just remove the side panel of a case and away you go.
or tell him/her to do it for you

Atleast then youll know whether itas the card or more likely

The mobo

Tried plugging power in again really tight, still same error. The fans on the gfx cards are spinning if that makes a difference. The 6780s are brand new.

Try testing everything else individually, start out with just the CPU in, should beep at you for no RAM, then test one stick at a time.

If that all passes, test the graphics cards in another machine to see if it boots with video.

Don't have easy access to another machine, I stipped the 5770 straight out of the working machine (which has =now been gutted) so seems unlikely all 3 cards are faulty.

Will take it apart tommorow and build from scratch again I guess :(

Completely took it apart and rebuilt it, tried combos of hw, still no matter what I do I just get the 3 long beeps. I'm really stuck :( Was excited for this upgrade! :(

If I remove the ram I get 3 long beeps and 1 short beep which is expected. Seating the ram again, it goes back to 3 long beeps, pause, 3 long beeps etc.

Are you sure you have the correct power going into the graphics cards? Sometimes the motherboard will register a fault and not boot if the gfx card isn't working properly.

Maybe you've got one power cord in the card and it needs two. Have a good look over it. Or maybe you are linking up PCI instead of PCI-E

It's a BeQuiet 750w modular PSU. There are two cables that fit for the cards. The end that goes into the PSU is labelled "PCIE-1" and there are two blue plugs coming off this which are labelled "VGA1" and "VGA2". These both clip in firmly to the back of the 6870's (the 5770 only needs one blue plug in it's back)

FIXED

Gosh it was hard to fix, the problem was there were too many feet screwed in on the case, the mobo rested on them and one of the feet was short circuiting the back of the ram.

I rmeoved the extra feet and it works fine now
