So ive just finished building my new system and after a couple of seconds of powering up it auto shuts down and i have no idea what the problem is... ive managed to access the bios but the same thing happens.

Ive had some issue fitting the heatsink, with it seeming to wobble however ive been assured this flexing on its fastenings are normal...

Please help!!! My specs are as follows:-

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail

XFX Radeon HD 4870 xXx 1024MB GDDR5 TV-OutDual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (HD-487A-ZDDC)

Foxconn Renaissance Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

Antec 900-2 Nine Hundred Two Ultimate Gaming Case - Black (No PSU)

Coolermaster Real Power 620w Modular Power Supply

OCZ Gold 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 Low-Voltage Triple Channel (OCZ3G1333LV6GK)

Western Digital Caviar Black 640GB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (WD6401AALS)

Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler (Socket LGA1366)

LG GH22NS40 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Leave it for the morning would be the best advice I think

Otherwise simplify everything is best. Ive had a single ide cable cause a problem like this, silly because it was easy to remove and I didnt try it for hours. You dont need much plugged in to access the bios

This is just extremley frustrating.... you spend hours upon hours building the stuffing things and then what do you get...... trouble shooting! :S

Mine developed something similar, shutdown just as Windows starts to load - but on checking it was pretty clear, Akasa Nero had popped out 2 pushpins. Assume the chip had hit some temp limit and protection kicked in.

Had it with useless pushpins so bought the cooler you have for its secure fit thing. Temps are a bit naff, will reseat when I can be arsed, but it's solid now - no rocking here either.

Best check those four base screws at least.

Reseat memory and graphics card; and try booting. Then try booting with only one stick of memory plugged in and only the graphics card plugged in - nothing else.

Right.... ive called customer support etc etc in regards to this heatsink and im getting nowhere fast, as far as i can tell its a thermal shutdown as its doing it at all stages though its gone from shutting down in 8 seconds to shutting down in about 20 after its been re-seated! Im at my witts end with this sodding thing

Im going to disassemble the system and try the stock cooler, it seems to be down to the fastening brackets on the heat sink not threading correctly as the screws stop before making total contact with the mounting brackets, hence the wobbling.... this has certainly put me off using noctua products in the future, assembly of the heatsink itself is a tad tricky and overall it doesnt feel like a quality product

I had a similar problem when my stock cooler popped one of those daft push pins out, I found by booting up & checking temps in the bios that my chip was heating up to 80 in no time before I switched it off, it must have been hitting higher & auto shutting off.

Sounds like a cooler issue to me m8.

Okay now im going to scream.... the stock cooler works fine, however i emailed noctua to advise of the problem and got a speedy response... basically in the manual it shows the fastening brackets being attatched below on the underside of the heatsink however in a diagram the noctua cust services sent me its done on the above side.

Personally I think someone is having a giggle but im going to give it a shot now!

Same thing for me mate this morning.

I just unplugged everything. Took out the mobo and pushed the cooler pins onto the mobo with a bit of brute force until it was a rock solid fit. I thought a few times I must've ruined it, or crushed the processor below (I'm no techie as you can see) but it seemed to be ok.

The, like someone else said, I seated the graphics card on it with 1gb of Mem and juiced it up. And it worked.

Proper delighted.

I've hit a software issue now though, which is so heartbreaking its actually become quite funny..
