Hey guys, really hoping someone can offer me some help or advice as I've tried everything i can think of. before we go into it, this is ADSL and not lovely Fibre as i can't get it yet :-(

I bought an Asus DSL-AC68U a few weeks ago to replace the Sky SR101 for multiple reasons, ethernet being capped (crap when using the NAS) and the Wi-Fi signal being terrible.

Rather than having 2 things plugged in, i opted for the more expensive DSL unit instead of the RT unit to completely get shot of the sky router, but I'm having trouble with the connection.

DSL Firmware Version 1.0.2.4
DSL Driver Version FwVer:5.5.1.128_A_A60901 HwVer:T14.F7_0.2
DSL Link Status up
DSL Uptime 0 days 6 hours 12 minutes 36 seconds
DSL modulation ITU G.992.5(ADSL2PLUS)
ANNEX Mode ANNEX_A
SNR Down 4.6 dB
SNR Up 7.9 dB
Line Attenuation Down 35.9 dB
Line Attenuation Up 20.3 dB
Path Mode FastPath
Data Rate Down 10239 kbps
Data Rate Up 1133 kbps
MAX Rate Down 11492
MAX Rate Up 1141
POWER Down 18.9 dbm
POWER Up 11.3 dbm
CRC Down 21060
CRC Up 0

I have tried moving the router around, i even went and bought a Cat 6+ RJ11 cable to ensure it wasn't nose related. Ive had BT out to look at the cabling and they put a new BT MK3 box on the wall and changed the way the house was wired but all of this and no improvement.

I don't know if it will make any difference but i couldn't get the username and password to work from the SR101 so used the details from my older Sagem F@ST and it works. also the internet connection drops at 1:15 every morning?

Would really appreciate any help that you can offer, thanks :-)

ohh and on a side note, the wifi is perfect... when the internet isn't dying!

Thats actually less than normal, it used to be up to 100k when i manually set the SNR offset but leaving it on auto brought it to -1

What do you mean by the latest code?

I could never get the DSL-AC68U to work properly on ADSL without it constantly disconnecting, I tried setting the stability adjustments such that it lost several MB vs my previous DSL router which worked perfectly, but then I only had it connected for a few days before I got VDSL and there have been numerous firmware changes since then.

But if you read the dedicated DSL-AC68U thread you will see numerous issues still for people on ADSL2.

I honestly think you better off returning it and get a different DSL router or get a separate modem and set up one of the DSL-AC68U's LAN ports as a WAN port.

The modem part of the DSL-AC68U sucks ass unless you on a really good line which considering how long it has been out is not so great, also you would think that it would be good on ADSL2 given how long that technology has been out, but this does not seem to be the case.

I have always had the best luck with Broadcom chipset based devices and if you want somethign that will be good for both VDSL and ADSL so you have future compatibility then I would have a good read at the following -

Hope this helps )))))

Thanks for the feedback, but sorry for the late reply!

I have returned the Asus DSL-AC68U and reverted back to sky. I purchased the router from PC World (sorry OCUK :D) and i was given a load by them why sky dont allow 3rd party routers at all and will limit my speed and sent warning letters of termination of services etc etc...

Anyways they give me a refund and im now in the market again for a replacement. I was looking at the Netgear D6300 but seeing as the D7000 isnt far from release im going to hold out for one of those and see how it goes (hint hint OCUK :D), or try the TP-Link Archer D9?

Anyways the sky speed is still crap but no errors at all, i think now i just have to wait for the line monitoring to pick the speed backup (yippieee :()
