Please help RAGE Setup on HD 6970 [SOLVED]

Hi all, had RAGE delivered today because i thought all the issues had been fixed, but evidently not.

Basically the issue i get is that every few seconds the game graphics just pause, the sound goes on but video stops. The longer i play, which isn't long, the worse it gets. Has anybody played this on a similar rig that can help?

My AMD drivers are probably a mess now since i tried installing several this evening in a fit of rage. Have got discs so reinstall is easy, but i don't know where to start on this game. Played a total of about 30 seconds..

SOLUTION: I just had to remove all drivers and files and folders. Then use driver 11.9, works a treat now. :D

RAGE should be banished to game hell cos of the mess ID made of it. It could have been a really good game if they had stuck with a 'standard' engine.

Anyway, all I can think of is, to try a clean install of the latest gfx drivers. I think there is some 'features' you can disable or enable in the ATI control panel that may or may not help the game to run better. Im not sure what these are but try google. Im sure one of them is to disable Vsync but I may be wrong.

Where do I go to uninstall the gpu drivers? And Should I just clear them all and install the latest? Some ppl say even the latest drivers don't work.

Do yourself a favour m8 and just bin that game. Its broken and will never be fixed, ID have washed their hands of it. My copy will be going to the next car boot sale :(

What is broken about it? Plays fine for me, I get 60fps maxed and the game looks amazing. I have not finished it yet so do problems arise later in the game?

What drivers you running? If I can get the same ones as you then maybe mine will work too.

I don't want to give up. I know there is a decent game hidden in there somewhere!

After the last patch, I played through the whole game start to finish, with no problems whatsoever at 1080p/8xAA/max settings with a constant 60fps (vsynced) on my 5870 1gb. Honestly, not a single problem or performance issue, just silky smooth gameplay. Yes there was the blurry close up textures in parts and the odd texture popin here and there (hugely reduced after patch), but those are issues with the game engine and barely noticeable once you start playing properly.

This was with the rage performance driver that came out last year, so you may want to try that. I've heard certain ATI drivers have major issues with the game, so I'd suspect drivers to be the source of your problem.

Not saying the game is perfect and I acknowledge many people have had issues with the game, but don't give up on it. Once you have the game playing properly, it's actually damned impressive. The gameplay is fairly simple and oldschool, but overall very fun - the gun shooting gameplay mechanics are incredibly satisfying (especially the shotgun). Also, despite the blurry textures in parts, the overall scenery is jawdropping in parts, with almost every texture being unique - something I've never seen in any other game. In fact, whole experience is very different to anything I've played before and not many games can offer all this at a constant 60fps (no exaggeration here, not a single fps drop).

Yeah pretty much what I have had with this game, still need to go back and finish it. I found the graphics very impressive indeed, other games look a lot worse and play quite bad compared to the magic ID did with this game. It blows me away everytime I play it graphics wise.

@voorhees1979 the textures make it look terrible.

I was playing earlier on with the latest 12.1 drivers from the AMD website so I recommend uninstalling existing drivers, running ATI Man uninstaller or something similar and installing them.

It sounds like a driver issue to me, so making sure you clean out the old drivers properly might make all the difference.

Some textures may look a little bad (which game has great textures all the way through?) but overall this game looks amazing. I do not really understand how people can find fault its graphics. Looks better then many games on the market at the moment:

I have never been very good at taking good pictures so these don't do the game any justice really.

It looks stunning, plays well as well imo.

I agree that megatextures work quite well in terms of making impressive landscapes but I found that ruined all too often by the absolutely terrible texture resolution.

Honestly, it looks better than some games (call of duty comes to mind) but it has it's issues and it's definitely not one of the best looking games on the market. In terms of gameplay, I found the combat very repetitive tbh.

I need this game in my life now :D Whats best way to uninstall all gpu drivers? i just did the manual uninstall through 'change' on control panel>remove programs.

Yeah there are some pretty low res texturing in parts which does grate when you notice it - but overall I can forgive that for the overall rich level of detail - its not helped by AMD drivers (not sure if its sorted now) rendering some textures at even lower resolution than they should - quite a lot of the flack for the low res textures come from AMD GPU owners who are getting some incidental textures rendered at 4x lower resolution than they are supposed to be.

Gameplay wise tho the game could have been improved a lot - theres the makings of a killer game there but its too fragmented and random to work :| i.e. you get some tools/weapons later on that are really fun to do some of the previous missions with but by the time you get them you have no incentive to go back and revist the earlier content... nice one id! :| I did enjoy it a lot but felt it could have been far far better.
