I already have a 1080p monitor, keyboard, mouse, 2GB surveillance seagate hard drive.

So I need
Case
PSU
Mobo
HD Card (HDMI output)
RAM
Processor
SSD?

And anything else I've missed

The main use of the system is going to be used as a cheap home server. So I don't really want to spend more than £250-£300 if I can help it. I'm going to be using several decentralised IP cameras so it needs to be capable of running something like blueiris.i also want to be able to use it as a centralised file and media server for my numerous iOS devices and other laptop.

Thanks in advance

Thank you for that Idleman, much appreciated. It seems everything bar the case is in stock, could you recommend a compatible case replacement?
Many thanks

Not sure on the workings of Blueiris, but looking at the system requirements, the spec should be up to the job. However, it does recommend an i7 Cpu if running many and/or HD cameras.

Download

Minimum requirements:

Pentium dual-core or equivalent 2GHz processor or better
2GB or more system RAM
Microsoft Windows XP SP3 or newer, or a server OS
One or more USB, DV (Firewire), or Network IP cameras, or an analog capture card with WDM drivers
Recommendations when using many and/or HD cameras:

Intel core i7
4GB or more RAM
Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows 8, 32 or 64 bit
Premium graphics adaptor
7200+ RPM drives and/or SSD drive

Do you have a capture card?

Hmm, would that push the price up a bit?
I know there are other ways of doing it such as Xpenology. I'm still stuck as to what OS I'm going to go for right now

Just checked on capture cards - pretty sure I'd only need one of these if I was using analog cameras.

The IP cameras I was thinking of getting are decentralised so do all of the video processing on board. Some can copy the footage straight to hard disk so I'd imagine in that case it wouldn't use much CPU power?

So I'm guessing what is going to be using the most CPU power is when I'm playing back the footage or when I'm watching it whilst out of home it will be streaming it

Use generic BT848/878 cards, or we specifically recommend the 4-channel PV149 and 8/16-channel Hikvision DS-40xx cards

A decent capture card rather than a video card. So depending on what you wish to do, will effect which card you get.

HIKvision cards.

Obviously, if you want to stream and record at the same time, you need the appropriate card.
But, as I said earlier, I don`t know much about this, but I think the Cpu spec should be fine. Any way I hope this helps some.

Thanks for the help
Just about to buy now the RAM is out of stock!! Are the 2gb sticks the max for the slots or can I get 4gb sticks

Unless im missing something, you can get a board with a HDMI port for less than that board+GFX card combined.

No, if he drops the Gpu and gets a capture card, then a mobo with HDMI willl be sufficient.

4 Channel 120fps D1 Real-time H.264 Network 3G PCI-E CCTV Video Capture DVR Card can be had for about £30 on the bay.

Mobo with HDMI.
